Rain & Thunder

Got dark here this morning and finally started to rain. Been a lone time since we have had any rain. Actually have a puddle in the driveway. grin

This is a big deal up here as it’s extremely dry. Last week we had a haze every day from smoke from the Canadian fires.

We have quite a bit of Haze in Outing and I was wondering –
The lake has a green hue to it this year, never seen it this color before.
I know it’s been hot but the Lake is very clean this year due to lack of runoff with no noticeable algea.

Could the hue of the lake be due to the Haze?

I’ll need a lot more than that to get the fire ban lifted in Voyageurs by Saturday.
First time in 25 years we won’t be able to have a fire, or a charcoal grill to cook on. Just picked up a portable propane one today so we can do some grilling on Namakan for our 7 day trip sad
Not a drop here in Cloquet today, hope we get some before the week is over.

They just ran a public service announcement up here on TV about all the smoke in the air. I just thought people were burning after the rain today but I guess not. No major fires in Koochiching county so it must be Canadian fire / smoke.

I’m heading up there with my wife and kids for a 4 day trip. Kids are 6, 4 & 2. Bummed we won’t be able to do campfires and s’mores. Even tho we desperately need it, I’m hoping the rain holds off the days we are up there.

A resort on the NW side of Rainy in Ontario just posted this. Currently 102 fires going on.

Yep it’s dry, even with todays rain. Hopefully Canada didn’t get much lightning to start more fires. It would suck for the camp owners to finally get the border opening only to have fires shut them down.

It’s been hazy from that smoke even here in the south metro. It must be much thicker up there where you guys are

It is hazy here in Central Wisconsin. The say it is from forest 🔥 somewhere.

Just saw Goosebury Falls ran dry, we could use a month long soaking statewide I think! Sunsets have been great tho.

I have not heard thunder all year. Ok maybe once but somehow I’ve missed almost any thunderstorms.

Apparently Minnehaha Falls is on the verge of also going completely dry too.

I’m also heading into VNP on Saturday and am hoping the fire ban gets lifted. There’s some rain in the forecast up there so I’ve got my fingers crossed. Would really be a bummer to not have a campfire.

No way the fire bans get lifted anytime soon. We’ll need multiple frog choking deluges before any fire bans are lifted.

    Nope. No chance for awhile.
And I’m seeing close to 85 from Friday til the end of next week with little to no rain either in the forecast. Good swimming weather, but we’re going to have to head in to Sunset resort where my in-laws will be staying, if we want to see a fire in the evening next week.
I saw a report that said there was 102 fires burning in Quetico park west of Voyageurs alone (which is closed, along with a large portion of the BWCA from north of Ely to east of Crane lake).

I’m watching air quality closely. We live by Brainerd and today you can hardly go outside due to smoke. It smells like smoke, visibility is a couple hundred yards. I don’t think it’s going to get better anytime soon. We have a Rainey Lake House boat trip coming up and we’re not going if it’s this hazy and smoky. You couldn’t see anything and you be stuck inside your boat all week. Not to mention my wife has asthma.

Here’s hoping they don’t shut down Voyageurs all together….

Mid Day news said the smoke/haze will hang around for another 36 or so hours, then the jet stream is changing which will help clear things up a bit for the weekend.

Today the smoke isn’t as bad as yesterday. However you can still tell it’s around. We had a east wind this morning so that helps. It’s suppose to switch around to the North this afternoon which will bring the smoke back.

We have a 50% chance of rain early tomorrow morning until around 10 am. Cross your fingers we get it.

72% of the state is now in at least “severe” drought category.

We were camping on Kab this past weekend and early this week. The smoke on Monday evening was thick. At first we were concerned the morning thunderstorms had started a fire very close to us but I guess a wind shift just brought down smoke from Canada.

We thought the one advantage of the campfire ban would be not smelling like smoke on the way home. Didn’t quite work out as we expected. -)

And you can thank us for the rain Monday as we’ve never camped there without getting rained on at least once!
