Rain/Snow

Have not heard how much rain they are talking wont help the ice but how much does rain effect the ice with snow cover. I would think it would soak in first then make it very heavy on top pushing the water up. I have only driven on a few chosen lakes I think this weekend anything less than 10 inches ice would be a huge gamble.

Driving a truck on anything less then ten is a huge gamble rain or no rain.

Very true sir. Just so this does not go off the rail I drive a smaller car but yes even with a small car I would not drive on 10 inches of this ice we have now. I wish they would say how much rain a tenth wont do much but a half inch will do some damage.

Gotcha yeah will depend on the amount of rain obviously but will probably make more of a mess than anything.

Depending on how much rain could it actually make things better longer term? In my area we are struggling to build ice and have a nice layer of snow on top. If the rain knocked the snow down so there was less insulation wouldn’t that be a good thing? Now if we get rain and then 5 inches of snow on top to reset the insulation, that’s just cruel.

I believe that is what will happen since it was raining/sleeting at first this morning and now it has turned to snowfall. The total snowfall is TBD

Yesterday 01-13-21 I was on a lake West of the metro. The ice was 10 inches with the top 3 inches being white. I could not believe all the full sized trucks pulling big wheel houses out there. At least a dozen drove all the way across the lake while I was there. The majority of people and myself still walked out. Maybe I am getting overly cautious in my old age. Nothing fell through that I saw. There are also several permanent houses out there. I hope the rain and snow does not give them too mush trouble.
