What to look for and what to look out for looking at a jacket between 50 and 150 and pants maybe bibs but not sure

Depends on your needs. I run a tiller so bibs are the most important part. Waterproof zippers with storm flaps. Also a panel at the bottom of the fly to keep the water out. Jacket, zippers and storm flaps. Breathable is also a must. I found a set of Frogg Toggs on sale for $350.00 that I love. Sims will run you upwards of $500.00 and I don’t really think they work much better although I wish I could afford them.

The Frog Toggs mentioned get my nod. Keep in mind that some of the pricier rain gear may be HOT during the summer months due to the fabrics used to make it a dry wear. I also have a cheap, roll-up, set of Frog Toggs that go fishing with me and take up little room but when needed do an amazing job of keeping me dry. I have yet to be wet inside this set and for under $30.00 [Scheels] but I do wish I would have had the option for bibs instead of the pants just in case I do get into a serious piece of weather. This cheap set fits in a stuff bag about the size of a football if there are space concerns.

There’s tons of options with rain gear, different styles for different uses and it comes down to personal preference and how you plan to use it.

Be honest with yourself about what kind of rain you actually fish in and plan to use the rain gear in. If I’m out fishing on a local lake after work and it starts raining heavy I’m probably going home. If it’s a light rain I don’t need hardcore rain gear to keep me dry for the couple hours I’m going to be out. For this I keep a lightweight pair of hiking type rain gear in the boat year round.

If I’m on a trip away from home or basically any time I plan to be out on the water all day, I’ll fish through a lot heavier rain and bring rain gear that will keep me dry for that. For this I have a PVC set that won’t leak water and is loose enough fitting that it still vents even though the material isn’t breathable.

Goretex bibs absolutely will leak through if you’re sitting for extended periods of time.

Columbia makes some good gear at an affordable price. I would suggest trying an REI and looking at their clearance sections. I got a Patagonia jacket and Columbia pants for less than $100 total.

Both are lightweight but run large so I can throw them over larger clothing in the spring and fall.

Frabill F2 or F3. Maybe check out the new striker raingear, heard good things about them.

I have the marmot precip jacket and bibs. I love them they are light and keep me dry while fishing in the rain all day. My phone stays dry in the pocket and you can get them on eBay for 150 to 200 for the set. I highly recommend them

Looking for something that I can use in later spring all summer and into the fall like 40 degrees and above it’s mostly for summer time

I was blown away by the selection at Scheels when I was in Bismark a week ago. Not sure if one is near you but they had at least 6 brands and variations with each and prices high and low.

PreCip is extremely popular with the hiking/backpacking crowd since it checks a lot of boxes… comfortable, lightweight, packable, cheap, and decently waterproof. I have the pants for my lightweight gear and I’m pretty positive Marmot doesn’t make PreCip bibs. The pants are solid for what they are but I wouldn’t want to be wearing them in a hard or all day rain… it doesn’t take long to get a wet butt if sitting down.

Sierra Trading Post is the place to get PreCip… Their supply fluctuates but it’s almost always $105 shipped for the Jacket/Pants combo if they have your size.

If I were in the market right now I’d take a hard look at the Cabelas Guidelite. It’s dirt cheap considering it uses Goretex Paclite which is just as waterproof but lighter weight and less breathable than normal Goretex. The jacket is an anorak so only a half zip if that makes a difference.
