The Saturday Night/Sunday Morning snow event could have impact on some of the northernmost lakes. It is still a ways out, but I’m only seeing predicted totals in the 2-4″ range. If there’s enough wind with the system it could blow off the larger lakes if it’s not too wet. If things go the other way and it turns into a major snowstorm, that could ruin things for a while or at least delay early ice plans for some.
Most of the places on URL are starting to allow wheelers this week and into next. The place I spoke with had a targeted goal of December 9th-10th for pulling out their lightest 2-4 man sleepers on ~9-10″ of ice. I think a lot of the resorts historically have slated that as their first definitive weekend booking on-ice rentals. It seems like a possibility, as the temps early next week take a nice dive for a few nights into the single digits with highs in the teens.
LOTW has been making progress based on the MODIS images and some social media posts. I would think a couple inches of snow wouldn’t be a major concern. If it turns into something 6″+, then that could definitely slow their potential wheeler traffic coming soon towards the main basins.
Other smaller lakes that are iced up in the Northern part of the state should be fine. They’re slowly adding ice each night and many will have 6″+ by the time Sunday morning rolls around. Many capped earlier than even URL if they were protected from the major winds.
