It was nice to come home from out of town yesterday and see a little over a 1/2 inch of rain in the rain gauge. I’m not sure but we may have got a little overnight as well. I did not notice it, but the wife said she thought it rained some. For some reason I sleep really hard last night. Normally even the lightest of rain and I hear it. I’ll have to check the rain gauge when I get home to see if we did get any last night or not. It was not a ton, but really needed. A day or two all day long soaker sure would be nice.

Here in SW WI we got anywhere from an inch to 2.5 inches from Saturday till this morning. Otherwise at my house I’ve had 2 tenths in 38 days.
June 26, 2023 at 3:10 pm #2210246I have noticed it was too late for lots of grasses. Once they go blond there’s no coming back. It just has to start over.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22776June 26, 2023 at 3:22 pm #2210250Fescue is the breed of grass that is dying off now. No recovering for it. The Kentucky Bluegrass will be fine, but Fescue will be dead.
June 26, 2023 at 3:25 pm #2210251There was a 90% chance of rain Saturday at the house. 9pm rolled around and the skies were clear and not a drop had fallen. So I watered the garden for the 44th day in a row.. Woke up Sunday to just over an inch in the rain gauge! Hallelujah!!!! Needless to say, I didn’t water the garden last night!

I’ve seen that too in some areas. Once it turns almost a whitish color, it ain’t coming back. Scorched earth

Not sure about that. I’m out in the country, no sprinkler system, rarely water, little shade. Past three drought years it’s gone beyond dry. When you walk on it, it is so brittle that it’s like walking on dry spaghetti noodles.
But come late August/September when we get some rain and cooler nights it always comes back and looks like Pebble Beach…

Except sometimes that doesn’t happen. Like last fall, when there was literally no recorded moisture to speak of for 2 months in Sept and Oct.
2021 killed several areas of grass on my previous lawn at my previous house. And that was even with watering it about 1-2 times/week. Those areas are sun baked and dry out quickly. They did not grow back the following spring.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22776June 27, 2023 at 8:29 am #2210350Im telling you guys it depends what breed of grass your lawn contains. Most Northern grass is a mix of fescue and kentucky bluegrass. The kentucky bluegrass is drought tolerant and will come back unless its super bad for like years, but fescue cannot tolerate it and will die out leaving only the bluegrass behind. My neighbor has inground sprinkling and it runs every morning. They have a company come out and fertilize their yard once a month. He asked them about the dead grass and this is exactly what he told him too. Told him not to worry the bluegrass will be fine, but the fescue is gone.
July 4, 2023 at 10:09 am #2211906Wow it has been raining cats and dogs near tonka for a solid 30 minutes. Looks like it won’t end anytime soon either. Had to pull the smoker under the awning of the garage but smoke on!

We are smoking 8 racks of ribs, and doing huge seafood boil today for my birthday. Of course it’s going to rain all day when 40 people are coming over lol. At least it will get everything wet for for when people light off fireworks tonight

X2.
Maybe I’m mistaken but didn’t you get rained out last year too???
July 5, 2023 at 1:51 pm #2212100I only got a little over a 1/4″ yesterday. My dad about 5 miles away had about 1.5″.
July 6, 2023 at 3:28 pm #2212337Latest drought monitor released this morning. Note that it does not include rain that fell on the 4th of July, as the cutoff is 8am on Tuesdays.
Most of our neighbors to the east and south are also very dry.

July 13, 2023 at 8:44 pm #2213341Finally getting some much needed rain in my area. Had about 3/10 on Monday or Tuesday. Just got another 4/10 in about 10 minutes just now. Still could use a ton more, but I’ll take anything we can get. I’m sure we have had more in the last 4 days than the rest of the season total prior.
July 14, 2023 at 6:11 am #2213348We got our first measurable rain in about a month last evening. Don’t have a gauge, but guessing between a 1/2 and 1 inch. We were spared, but a mile south of us got hammered by hail. Corn fields were shredded. Several reports of 2-3 inch hail.
July 14, 2023 at 6:56 am #2213350i really feel for the farmers when there crops get damaged by the weather, then barely any rain to keep them going.
up hear in cold spring we got enough rain last night to just things wet…….didnt even register in the gauge!!!!
ThunderLund78Posts: 2532July 14, 2023 at 8:37 am #2213360Had big dark clouds building in the west all evening yesterday only to do the magic split as soon as they approached my area. Has happened almost every time this summer for some reason.
I’m not a big lawn waterer but I’m going to need to start. patches of my back yard (which we’ve always had problems with due to poor soil) have actually died and it’s just bare, bone dry clay in some patches. The rest in front and back is just crusty yellow grass.
isu22andyPosts: 1739July 14, 2023 at 8:57 am #2213363Last night we had 1.4″ in Zumbro Falls.
Only .4″ about 3 miles West of ZF.
Mazeppa had 0.
That’s the most rain we’ve had here since mid May.
Lawn looks better already and the food plots are lovin it!Jimmy JonesPosts: 2814July 14, 2023 at 9:11 am #2213364.8 tenths in S Rochester since may 16th so far .
We’ve seen about 1.1″, during the same time-frame, in NW Rochester.

Rough guess, we are 20ish min east or so of you. We got 1/2″ very quickly and a bunch pea sized hail. Heard reports of large hail near Winstead coming quick, luckily we didn’t get the big stuff.
Much needed rain, would be nice if it came down a little slower to soak in better.

If it’s already crunchy yellow it’s probably too late for watering. Just let it go dormant at this point.
