When 93.7 the Edge turned to 93X didnt they play REM End of the world as we know it for like 2 days straight?

You just pulled an archive out of the memory bank with that one jester

I NEVER would have remembered that until you mentioned it.

You guys remember when Weasel got the boot and Nick and Josh had to pretend nothing happened??

    Remember Ally??

I was working down in Chicago 5-6 years ago and heard her on the air down there, not sure if she still is.

Lots of us old duffers on here! wdgy, kaay & wls were my go toos. KQ in the early 70’s and late 60’s was king, nothing like today. All the DJ’s talked real low, almost whisperers. Wanted to sound stoned, like most of their listeners.

My routine was KQ in the morning, a mix but mostly Rush midday, then 93X from then on till home. Now it’s mostly talk radio or Sirius stations like Octane, Ozzy etc. I rarely listen to local FM now.

Dang I didn’t wappel left now. I hung out with him a few times, one of my cousins was “the girlfriend” they referred to on air for a few years. Nice guy.

That’s news to me too sad

Since we moved I haven’t checked in with the morning show much at all.

Once in a blue moon the clouds are right and I get 93 over the air, but it’s only happened a few times.

KPE was your cousin the one with “no gag reflex”??? rotflol

I stopped listening to regular radio about 5 years or so ago. I liked 93X but I can only hear the same stories like 5 times before I get bored with it.

The music they play is terrible and the commercial breaks are almost 10 minutes. I’ll never give up Sirius XM now that I have it.

I liked kq morning show for a few years, but then they couldn’t keep people on the air with Tom and his Schtick got stale as a cracker in King tut’s tomb. The other thing I got so sick of was the guy going on and on about his wife, like she was Ms. America combined with Marilyn Savant. Hell for all I know Cathy might be more like Lia Thomas.

Does anyone ever listen WXYG (THE GOAT) in St. Cloud? It’s now 540 AM but I swear they used to have an FM signal. I stumbled on it on the way home from the cabin after the power loon faded out. WOW! Talk about a music lover’s radio station. They’re classic rock but they go DEEP and their DJs are really into it and give you the stories behind the albums and songs. It’s like going through your cool uncles vinyl collection from the 70s. They even do a weekly guest DJ spot where a listener spin their playlist for an hour. They also stream so you don’t have to listen to a tinny-sounding AM signal.

Need help here from the old guys. Way back when KQ was king of the mornings there was another show giving them a run for the money. The DJ’S were Donuts & somebody else? Any help? Anybody remember what station they were on?

    Yup, I do.
    Knapp and Donuts.
I believe they were on KSTP

    F! im getting old.

    A little tidbit.
I grew up with the Hine’s. I hung out with John Hines younger brother. Recently I did John’s kitchen, he now resides in FL.

I’ve been at parties with John and he is one joke after another and they are funny as hell.

Another vote for the Power Loon here, when I’m in the listening zone.

Otherwise I listen to KFAN a lot too. Summer time is fairly boring since there’s really no sports to discuss other than baseball.

    From KQ website:

What’s Next for KQRS? We’re Glad You Asked!
    Posted: April 3, 2025
We’re changing. Let’s get that said up front. It’s a good thing. Rock music has to evolve and so does KQ. There are things which exist that do not evolve whether by choice or fear, and when they don’t, they wither away. Not us. KQRS belongs to the Twin Cities and we embrace evolution as an entire generation demands we become something for them. Our goal is to focus on your personal soundtrack—one that speaks to Gen-X and beyond.

Why change? Well, because you’ve asked us to change. You deserve to know what we’re doing and why. There’s no head scratching here because we’re coming right out with it. Proudly, as a matter of fact. The truth is you might listen to KQ now and realize it’s not for you (pardon the Pearl Jam pun). That’s ok. This isn’t meant to be for everyone but if you give us a chance and some trust, you’ll fit in perfectly.

We’re led by Steve Gorman in the Morning with the sounds and perspectives by and for Gen-X. You’ve asked for the music that shaped your life. From the power chords of the ‘80s to the raw energy of the ‘90s, into the wide-eyed optimism of the 2000s. We’re delivering the rock that matters most to you. We’ll also give real exposure to the iconic Minnesotans who have built the sounds of our community. All this music has been here and we’re giving it a home. KQ is now a complete rock station.

This isn’t just a change—it’s a natural progression; time for us to grow again. It’s about renewing the spirit of the KQ. Making it more relevant, more electric, and more yours than ever.

Welcome to the next chapter of 92KQRS. Now for an entire generation that grew up screaming Here we are now. Entertain us!

So they’re just shifting their classic rock window up a decade from 70’s and 80’s to 80’s and 90’s? Hmmm, don’t get me wrong, I love 80s rock and the grunge era, but if it’s just going to be the same old hits, than I’m out.

Well, I tuned in via stream and they were playing The Replacements’ “Can’t Hardly Wait” and I was really excited – but then saw the “last played list” on the right side of the screen…

Blah… Probably an unpopular take, but You Shook Me All Night Long may be my most hated tune of the 1980s, SO overplayed and couldn’t care less if I EVER heard that song again. White Wedding? a fine song, I suppose, but this doesn’t look much different than the old KQ. They were already playing U2 and Foo Fighters in the old format as well. As far as I can tell, they just dropped the 70s stuff and are throwing in some alt stuff… Green Day’s Longview playing now… Yawn…

So they are following KOOL 108

Yeah, they’re basically KOOL 108 or Jack FM, now. For a lot of people they just like to have stuff on in the background – and it drives me nuts. I’m a proud music snob, and I’m very deliberate when i listen to music, even if it’s ambient. I can’t stand listening to the same stuff over and over and over.

I’ll just go back to Spotify and control the tunes myself.

And yeah b man I remember ally.

Also remember when kqrs still had terry traen. They treated her so mean though, even on air… Maybe it was just part of the schtick but they were dumb to let her go!

To the point- if I’m driving for work I’ll often toggle between 830 and 1130 am for a little contrasted talk radio.

I saw on the twitter machine this morning that Paul Fletcher is joining KQ. I have always liked him when I have heard him and certainly has a BIG music collection he likes. Im not a KQ guy, but maybe he can resurrect it.
