Very disapointed, saw this in the bass forums. More disapointed that people jumped in to aggree and not defend a people group. To state that there is a problem with a people group is shameful.

While I agree that this phrasing is bad “Do you also have a Hmong problem?”, if he witnessed a group of people poaching, I don’t think it’s racist. It’s just the facts. But you can’t call out an entire race, because I am sure it’s a minority of them doing it.

to copy and paste something your disappointed in and start a new thread about it in the General Forum, to make sure ALL can see it…? Oxymoron.

Certainly may have been true years ago. Today I don’t think so.

New generations that come over are gonna keep doing what they’ve done their whole lives, and that’s fish to feed their family, which they actually do!!

As each generation progresses the newer ones become more use to the American culture and rules and regs, and well while I’m sure most the “bucket fillers” could have been within their legal right to keep all of em they get plastered with the stigma of hoarders.

I’ve shorefished for several years now, only bucket fillers I’ve seen on the river we’re some Russian dudes with carp, and one group of asain people who had their family with and I watched as they released the bass and kept the suckers/catfish. Can’t tell ya what others have seen, but I’ve spent hundreds of hours on shore with these folks and haven’t seen that happen.

In fact, the newer generations of asian anglers I’ve seen are some of the best sticks around. They come to CPR probably more than most, and are just always out fishing! I think that’s awesome.

I’m pretty sure I did jump in specifically to point out that there are plenty of Hmong sportsmen who are not poachers; and another poster also echoed my experience.

I agree the choice of language was unfortunate but in the case of the lake being discussed, there were multiple experiences by different people here with this ethnicity poaching and the DNR not being able to bridge the language barrier to educate/issue citations. That’s a problem, but there’s gotta be a way to talk about that problem without making broad generalizations.

Hang around here a while and you’ll be offended a few times. Voice your concern and someone will just try to turn the tables and say YOU’RE the problem. You are not going to change the minds of those guys via an Internet forum. It just does not happen.

For the most part people here are generous, insightful, and respectful. In my observation, when someone is called a racist here it causes a chain over-reaction bringing out the worst in everyone.

Why can’t we just stick to fishing? coffee

I don’t think dutchy is racist from my experience of reading his posts. Maybe his wording could have been better but we are also getting a screenshot of a larger conversation.

All culture like to eat diffence kind of fish.
Example. White like to fish walleye, bass, crappie… while Asian love whitebass and they just fish for whitebass.! and yes they keep their limit 25. who cares if they are keep 25 or 5???
I am an Asian and I fish for fun (most the time catch and release). if I get into whitebass I will keep it for families. maybe 3-5 walleye /year . 2-3 northern/year.
Happy fishing than to be a racist.!

I’ve known Hmong people. They make some damn good fish. They also followed the law. I suspect what was seen years ago does not happen as much anymore, no more than say poachers of any background.

Here’s a little insight to the Hmong culture. Since they helped us fight in the Vietnam war and they are basically nomads, they were resettled in many countries, mostly France and the us. In fact, most here today started in France.

Back home, any protien was like gold to them, it was rare that they got to eat it. It was scarce. So that plays into it somewhat.

And if you like hot food and have never had papaya salad, oh man, you need to try it. Especially on a hot day.

Because people see a different ethnicity does not make them racist. Does anyone think One saying “whites” like walleye, crappie and bass was racist ? All whites lumped into one group…. Nope I didn’t. Same should be done for Dutch. Not ? Go fishing folks and troll for real.

If we’re calling out offensive posts I want to call out the “Calling all geeks” thread. Geek is a highly offensive term to those with abnormally effective brains. wave

For the record, tilapia are not Florida fish. Let’s swing this topic to AIS.

Is it AIS, I’ve been drinking. That’s what we Floridaians do.

Like the little kids song goes….”Red & Yellow, Black or White, I will rip all the children of the world.” Or well, maybe thats not it exactly but close enough. wink I’m a little disappointed in Ms. Lohan, she has appeared to clean her act up a bit. frown

BTW, since I’m offending people maybe somebody could let me know what word I should have used instead of “Hmong?” Asian justs seems to generic. Little yellow folks seems wrong also. Southeast Asians? I dunno. Seriously, what would have been the proper term?

In my observation the Hmong population that fishes reminds me of my grandparents generation they were legitimately thrilled about a free meal of fish. Also no matter what you do now a days you’ll offend someone. Shoot a deer it will either be too small and you should’ve passed or too big and you should’ve passed
