My son, Tanner, hiked off to the west and I stayed around the cabin parameter so I could keep an eye on the food fire and cook lunch. I can’t wait to see how we do on a full day vs. an hour here, an hour there!

Nice, it’s been many years since I went tree rat hunting.

I have yet to put more than a couple hours at a crack this year but I’ve got 8 in the freezer so far. The acorns aren’t great this year but they’re bringing in the wildlife like crazy! Usually, the squirrel population around the cabin isn’t very good but this year, they’re really thick! So normally, I venture other woods but this year, given the number and frequency of sightings, I’ve decided to thin them a bit.

My dad and I used to save up all our squirrel, grouse, and rabbit (if we got any), and have a “wild game feed” (or two) with just the family hunters. So Tanner and I are kind of on the same mission for this year. I’ve finally got some time to get out there again so I’m seizing my every opportunity! Perhaps I should save a plate for ya?
