So, my brother is telling me, he has our nephew, Travis, shooting his old BB Gun. Travis has been bugging us for a couple years to take him hunting, he is 10 going on 11. We told him he needs to take gun safety, I think is doing it this year His dad does not hunt, so if he is gonna learn, it will be for his uncles. Anyways, he comes up to the cabin with us this weekend, and brings the BB Gun. Friday night he sets up some cans and starts plunkin’ em from about 20 yards…. I was impressed !!! I never would have thought he would have the patience and steady hand to do this, especially standing. Saturday morning rolls around and he says he wants to go shoot a chipmunk…. I figure they’re safe, so he wanders out back. About a minute later, I hear a Pffffffttttt…. and he comes walking down the trail and says “I shot a chipmunk” I of course give him the eyeroll and ask where is it ? He says it fell off the log into the weeds…. I told him, if you kill something, you need to recover it. He asks for gloves….again the eye roll, and I tell him just to pick it up by the tail. He wanders back down the trail and low and behold a couple minutes later, he comes out with a chipmunk !!! I couldn’t believe it…. then he starts in with the birds, I throttled him back and told him he needs to savor his first kill. He was pretty proud of himself, when he actually thought about his first kill… truth be told… so was I !!!! He is hooked
