Herb-I am sure glad that you came out and stated exactly how I feel about the PETA and anti people. It seems they are winning their battle by instilling fear into the hearts of hunters and fisherman. Almost all of the websites are so afraid of what PETA might see that it is almost impossible to get a thread started before it is zapped. People, PETA and the Anti’s already have the fuel. We need to continue on with what we do and not back down from these clowns. That’s all I got to say ’bout that

AMWatson, sir it is all about hunter image if you haven’t noticed. If we are to win this war with PETA and the anti hunting group we have to come across as civil and somewhat caring people. When posting pictures we need to show respect to the wonderful animal taken by us.
Think about how many non hunters are on the fence, they can go either way and by some chance see a disturbing picture or written article, this could very well swing them to the side of the anti’s.
It is for this reason that we need to protray the very best image we can, not that of some beerdrinkin huntin slob red neck, not that its not fun to be one at times but our gun rights and hunting rights are at stake.locallawPosts: 6February 4, 2005 at 1:51 am #340789AMWatson, sir it is all about hunter image if you haven’t noticed. Think about it…..how many times do you sit down and read an animal rights forums?
But that being said, if it is truely illegal, it’s probably not too smart to post a picture of you doing it on the internet. There was a big spat over on a duck hunting forum recently about this guy who broke the law (over his possesion limit), posted it on the internet, and was visted by several fedral waderns a few days later …….Talk about an idiot

February 4, 2005 at 2:38 am #5611I’m not a beerdrinkin huntin slob redneck, and I could still care less about the image I present to peta or anyone else for that matter. This baloney about trying to come across to peta pals that hunters and fishermen are a great bunch of touchy feely warm and fuzzies will never pacify the anti’s. We all know their bottom line and that will never change as long as people are will to fork over the money to keep them in business. They get new recruites every day just as the outdoor sports do. I’ve noticed in the news lately, people are starting to get tired of their crap. I pursue my outdoor activities within a set of man made laws and handed down ethics that I’ve handed down to my kids. Now just today I found out that something I was doing is outside the law. Shame on me and I’ll admit to it right up front. As far as I’m concerned ethics wasn’t involved whatsoever. It was a law that I bypassed and it won’t ever happen again. I kill game to eat, I kill fish to eat, I trap for money and fun, and I shoot crows for fun and to bring down the population. I apologize for none of that. No matter how you try to present them, these are bloody sports. Not every shot is a clean kill. Not every fish is hooked in the lip. You cannot eat fish and game without drawing blood first. Such is life on earth.
Realize it, accept it, and get on with it.February 4, 2005 at 2:38 am #340799I’m not a beerdrinkin huntin slob redneck, and I could still care less about the image I present to peta or anyone else for that matter. Screw Em’…. I am no longer going to hide and bury my head in the sand and worry about PETA…. PETA is controlling your lives and they are “accomplishing” their goal when they make you feel like you can’t enjoy your sport any longer…. I say enjoy yourselves in your hobbies and passions and just ignore these ignorant people. I for one will no longer worry about PETA or anyone else for that matter.
Want to shoot a crow ? I say have at it…….. And I hope you shoot a bunch of them flying pest/rats/cockroaches

February 4, 2005 at 9:41 pm #5621Just a reminder to anyone hunting in Minnesota. Crows do have a legal season and that does not open until March 1 – 31st. Crows can be taken at any time only if they are or about to do damage.
I know I will be out calling and blasting shortly after the first.
Good luck guys!

February 7, 2005 at 5:15 pm #5640Nice shirt! ANyway, made it out last night. Only made one set up and had the birds come in but after seeing the birds and realizing that I set up under a tree with a million branches that I had messed up. Could not see the birds until the were over and going the other way. Oh well fun getting out. Will be going again this week!

February 8, 2005 at 3:12 am #5641buckmaster i have to disagree with you. i think the extra shot power is a plus unless you are just shooting at birds 20 yards away. alot of the times the crows will come in real close at first and we blast. then we turn off the caller real slow and sit for about 10 min with silence and put a diff tape in and re arrange the dekes a little bit. usually when you get the crows to come back in they are a little bit wary and are up there 40 50 yards which is way out of range for standard trap load. i have a picture of a gray crow ill post for ya. i shot it last fall with about 5 or 6 others when i was by my self and did what i just sayd about 3 times. they came back in all 3 times.

buckmasterPosts: 776February 8, 2005 at 4:44 pm #5642Fishermanpepin,
40-50 yards is to far out for trap loads? It might be getting a little out there, but I amn’t afraid to shoot 60 yards with them, let alone 40 yards. My avg. yardage at shooting them is probably 30-40. You have to figure that if you are standing below a big old oak tree (tallest tree in area) you know it probably is 30-35 yards up (maybe more) then if they are flying 10 yards above that…………you are at 40-45 yards and that isn’t even counting if they don’t fly directly over you. Glad to hear you shoot heavy loads at them, but I just use the $1.25 trap loads that I found on clearance at Wal-Mart to shoot mine. What it really comes down to is if you can shoot or not. Crows don’t hardly take anything to kill, so pretty much any amount of shot that hits the bird will knock it down.
That is a good tip on resetting the decoys and having them come back. I have tried this the last couple times out and have had no luck what so ever. Not sure if the birds in my area are getting well educated or if they just don’t like my set-ups. Guess what works for one doesn’t work for another. My last time out all it took was a wrong tone of call with my mouth and they were gone. I then set-up with the e-caller for an hour and couldn’t get a thing to even fly by.
Cool pic………..glad to see you are cutting into the crow population.

February 8, 2005 at 8:28 pm #5643lol i agree if you shoot a crow in the foot it will fall outta the sky. i just like the added confidence that i got the big bullets. same with turkeys. im sure if you sho a turkey in the head with 7 1/2 trap load they would fall down. but yet everyone has got to have the big 10ga 3 1/2 nitro magnum heavy shot bismuth. lol i know thats not a real shotshell but ya know what i mean.

buckmasterPosts: 776February 8, 2005 at 9:01 pm #5645I knew exactly what you were saying and I am usually that same type of guy “bigger the better” (talking shells here).
Will those shells you mentioned fit in my triple barrel, double scope heat seekin’ shotgun as well????
Also, that was nice of them to chop your head off like that in the pic on crowbusters, but that is pretty cool that you even got them to post your pic at all. Cool beans…..

February 11, 2005 at 3:24 am #5667i thought that was kinda wierd that they shot a crow that was banded 4 times. i was never aware that they banded crows at all. i know they band other birds other than ducks and geese like doves cranes swans and even songbirgs(dont ask me how your supposed to leagally find them) but i never thought a crow let alone 4 times!

buckmasterPosts: 776February 11, 2005 at 5:26 pm #5440I was never aware either until I first starting getting on that site. I know I talked to a few people this hunting season and they were shooting toe bands on geese. You have to look in the webbing of there feet for them. Kinda cool looking if I don’t say so myself. Yet to come across one though.
For the shotgun………..I had to cobble a few guns, parts, ect….. to build it, but boy it has been worth every minute. I think if I get the shells you mentioned, I should be able to shoot geese at 150-160 yards. Custom made fishermanpepin, cann’t just by this baby at any general story ya know.
