I realized after watching this that there is another tip I should have mentioned. Reel your slack up! Once in a while I’ll see someone’s line “jump” when they have too much slack. By the time they set the hook, fish is gone. In the Vid, I was sweeping the slack out of the line while it was sitting still.
Good luck!
Good tips Randy. Going to have to start slowing it down a tad when summer comes I really start to jump everything up a notch. Need to experiment more with smaller baits, a walleye I opened up week or so ago had all 2-3″ minnows, could have been crappies had a more round profile but too broken down to see.
Good video Randy! working a POP-R works the same, sometimes its the pause before working it again that makes them get very curious, then just a slight movement of the lure and thats when they hit. I’ve let my lures and jigs sometimes sit for a 5 to 15 count like you said before I move them.
Dan, I agree very much on the pop-r or chugs. One thing I’ve noticed over the years when I was throwing a chug bug is how often bigger bass were caught by others in my boat throwing sub-surface. Not to say big bass don’t break the surface. But my experience has been more consistently bigger bass feed below. Throwing those stick baits and having them 1 to 5 feet below the surface have produced bigger fish for me.
I see what you mean now Randy, When I listened to your video I related to the pause info and what POP-R’s do. I see now why your useing the sub surface lures and working this technique at the same time. The neutral dropping baits and the pausing of them under water does mimic an injured and dieing baitfish, good info.
