Putting steer assist on and older Warrior Tiller

I love my 97′ V177 Warrior Eagle. It has a older 75hp Merc 2 stroke. Since I find myself trolling alot, and frequently fishing with people that don’t always know how to “man the rods” when catching a fish or more commonly a snag hah I would love to be able to walk around my boat more and not have to worry about it changing direction or going in circles.

I have tried to adjust the tension on the steering to get it to stay straight yet be able to steer easy and there is just no happy middle ground.

Has anyone added steer assist to a tiller that it didn’t come with it? Any idea on costs? or who does it?

Any info would be great. I added a pic of my rig just for fun!

you know i have the same deal with my 90 tiller, i thought about making a tilt up holder of somekind just to hold the tiller arm in one place.Would it work in waves i doubt it. DK.

Check out backtroller boats website. He has a system you can retrofit. A buddy out one on his 90 Honda and he likes it A lot.

At $1500 bucks that isn’t too bad. Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it I will get in touch with tiller assist. I will update this post if/once I add the tiller assist.

However, I am not sure I want a momentary switch to lock the tiller. They define this as a switch that locks the tiller as long as pressure is being applied to it via foot peddle or switch on the handle. I want to walk around the boat with it locked. I wonder if there is an option to lock on and lock off.

Captain Musky, your buddy have any complaints about that momentary switch?

Redneck solution here, attach bungees preventing the motor turning without your assist.

    Or put on a kicker

of course, you could always just hang a new Mercury 75 4S on it, with the Uflex/Titan steering system,,,,,,,

Evan call John, he is very accessible and will explain what his system can and can’t do.

I would hang a Suzuiki 4S on it 100 times before a new Merc, and that is saying alot because I love my old merc.
