I have a 4.5 month old lab that I introduced to guns and pigeons and she did really well with it. Her training is going well but not completed fully yet. Do you think it will be to early to take her duck hunting as long as I am holding her for steadiness and my dad does the shooting,as that is her big issue she is not steady all the time?

I would not take such a young dog duck hunting unless you can guarantee lots of action. It’s so important to keep them interested at that age and if it’s a slow hunt they’ll get bored quickly. Try something that has more action to start if your able to.

Too young yet in my opinion. Could the pup go out there and do good? Yes. But there’s far more to lose than to gain by brining a pup duck hunting too early. You said the pup was just recently introduced to guns and the training is not yet complete. Seems like you answered your own question. Does the pup have marked retrieves down pretty good?

Thanks for the replies. She loves the water and retrieving. She has a great nose as she has flushed a few pheasants already. Just don’t want to ruin her. I was spoiled by My last dog was a brute and was retrieving geese at 5 months but every dog is different.
