Anyone heard what is what on Devils Lake as of now? Heading out there saturday to fish for three days and have heard it is hit and miss. We went last year so have a sense of what tackle to bring but wondering if anyone has any more recent info they would pass on. Thanks in advance mainly looking for lures not spots to fish I don’t expect that.

Also following this post. We are heading out this afternoon and fishing Thurs-Sunday for our first time trip out. We are staying at Lakeview lodge and will be mobile. Thinking about bringing my bikini with the temps the next few days haha. any info would be greatly appreciated. Irott I will try and check in with reports when up there to hopefully help you out before the weekend.

Hope you have tracks on what ever you’re going up with or taking snowmobiles. They probably have 2 to 3 feet of snow on top of the ice almost everywhere with the drifting.
January 4, 2017 at 9:30 am #1662057Check out this link: http://devilslakefishingreport.com/. It is pretty accurate as we just got back from fishing Sunday and Monday with the perch patrol. We did better than most people, even than other people with perch patrol. We caught just about all 84 perch on a gold tungsten jig tipped with a waxie. You will need tracks or you will spend most of the time being stuck if not all! We caught 60 on Sunday, beautiful for hole hopping, and 24 on Monday, miserable outside with the wind and temp!
January 4, 2017 at 9:43 am #1662067Fishtoeat Thank you for the feedback. How many guys did it take to catch 84 perch and what size were you catching. Is it hard to get around out there with all the snow on ice. I will let you know how we do when I get back. we are fishing with perch patrol as well this coming sunday to tuesday.

Thanks for the info , what depths were you fishing? We are heading out on 1-13-17 this will be the earlist we have gone to devils. We have our annual trip set for first week of March.
We have done very well in March in the past so we just put together a quick Jan. trip to give it a shot.
January 4, 2017 at 10:02 am #1662079We had four guys, but one was my 86 year father which stayed in the shack and my son who also stayed in the shack and takes naps and plays with the phone a lot. They both caught there share though, but probably could have been better if mobile. We quit at 3 o’clock on The 60 number day and could have caught more, but agreed to go for the evening walleye bite early as it was overcast, but only ended up with five walleye, one was during the day fishing for perch. I would not have anything but tracks out there, there were trucks, but most of them spinning or getting stuck. The snow is deep enough to get hung up on the undercarriage. Monday we quit by 3:00 because of the high winds and temps, and there were more lookers than takers. We were fishing in 25 feet of water by the power lines, went off the boat ramp on Graham’s Island.
January 4, 2017 at 10:34 am #1662103A few pics of our trip. The picture of the 11″ perch I’d say was the average, we did keep a couple 9″ which were a little small and a couple up to probably 13″ or 14″.

January 4, 2017 at 1:02 pm #1662176Is that vehicle one that perch patrol uses or is that yours?
Hope that the bite is on while we are out there heard while you were there it was good up until about a day or two ago. Did it matter what weight you were using or just that gold color was the key. I have gold tungsten custom jigs and spins in the 5mm size I think will the size make a difference in your mind. Also were you using their equipment or did you have your own rods I am wondering if I should have braid mainline with leader or just straight mono.
Sounds like awesome trip.
January 4, 2017 at 2:02 pm #1662196The suburban was the guides, but each guide supplies there own equipment, not all the transportation is the same. I’m not sure of the size as I’m not familiar with tungsten sizes, about 1/4″ in diameter. They do have some at Woodlands for sale that were very close to what we were using on the end of the display rack. My Dad did catch some on like a dark blue glow jig, but not as many as on the gold. They do supply all equipment, my Dad and brother used there rods and I did bring some of my own rods for me and my son, all mono. Bringing extra equipment could cause issues with room in the vehicle, it was very tight in ours with the little extras that we brought. There rods for perch had a nice tip but had braid and would freeze up fast out of the shack. We used our own Marcum LX-7s’, they supply Vexilar FL28s’. I do believe the equipment other than shelters and locators are different from guide to guide, you could call Zippy from perch patrol to confirm.
