Pulling Spinners

I’ve been pulling spinner rigs on bottom bouncers with both leeches and crawlers. I’ve noticed a lot more line twist with the single hook leech rig than I do with the double hook crawler rig. Is there any way to help with the line twist on the leech rig? The bottom bouncers I’ve been using have a snap swivel already attached to them.

check to see if your leech is balling up. If so consider using a leech tamer bag instead of keeping the leeches in a cooler. It gets them acclimated to the water so they don’t ball up causing line twists. You could also consider gulp alive or trigger x leeches, they work just as good.

It will help using a stiffer line. 14# flouro is my preferred line. Needs to be enough stiffness in the line to allow the swivel to do it’s thing.

Also, make sure your swivel is staying clean and isn’t full of algae.

I second a stiff line. I have switched to 16# Sunline this year and the rigs stay straight. Granted Sunline is not cheap but it helps because of the low memory compared to cheap stuff.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll try retying with heavier line to control the twisting on the single hook rig.

12# Vanish does the trick for me, and can count the # of bite offs on a single hand over years. Doesn’t do loop knots well at all but still like to go as light as possible for eyes.

I have better luck cutting the bottom bouncer arm (with the snap) off and using the rest as a sliding sinker with a ball bearing swivel as the stopper. The curled up leech problem at least doesn’t twist your line past the swivel. You’ll also gain a lot of sensitivity.
