Public transportation to St. Paul Ice Show

I HATE driving any further east than Maple Grove. So much so that I rarely go to sporting events, concerts, dine at fancy city restaurants, etc. Lately I have found riding the train from Big Lake in to US Bank Stadium, and then the light rail to Target Feild is a great stress free way to go to a twins game, or a concert. Also if you factor parking, it’s also quite a bit cheaper. I’m just wondering if anybody knows if there’s a reasonable way to get from US Bank stadium, or Target feild to the Xcel Energy center using public transportation? Sorry for being totally clueless on Public Transportation, but I’m totally clueless on where to even start.

    Thanks in advance, Drifter.

The green line (light rail) will take you from the bank to within about 6 blocks of rivercentre.

If you like light rail, you can hop on the green line from US bank or Target field and get off at Central Station. That’d be like 5 or 6 blocks from RiverCentre.

We’ve never been there and might show up Saturday.

How bad is it actually just to find a ramp and walk? No idea of the amount of people this draws.

Is the VIP ticket worth it and then get out of there? I don’t like crowds like Disney in January. Thanks.

It will be a big crowd Shawn, and even bigger if there’s no fishable ice locally when the show’s happening.

No actual ice fishing means they all go to the ice fishing fantasy land to find their dreams in St. Paul… eek

It’s always busy but we seem to find somewhere to park all the time without too much of a headache

Last year it cost me $30 to park. I thought that was excessive. If I remember right there was something going on near there that made it extra busy. I’m just looking to try and enjoy it a little more by cutting out the hassle of driving in the cities, and parking.

Going to be hard to get an otter flip over on the light rail.

My contract parking is below the Double Tree and Rival House. It is a very nice parking lot and a short walk to the Xcel. It doesn’t get nearly as maddening and is super easy to get in and out of traffic wise. I understand your frustrations, but I feel like parking a few blocks away from the X would be much easier than the light rail.

Also, the bus from Mpls is MUCH faster than the light rail. I would check that out too if you want to go the public transportation route. The train makes a ton of stops down University while some buses go non stop between downtowns.

Drifter Northstar to the Green Line will get you close, just need to see which stop on the Green line is closest to XCel. Also, it takes the Green Line about an hour to go from Target Field to St Paul, so plan accordingly. For those driving I believe they just reopened the RiverCentre ramp, so you should be good to go. There’s also a lot of parking up West 7th if you don’t mind a little walk.
