I have to drive by lake this weekend so I am thinking of a doing some quick fishing, ah I have no idea where to lunch out of. So any suggest where to lunch out of if I want to use a public access?

I’m sure there are some that drive out of public access although I wouldn’t try it now. With the recent snow and wind, there are some pretty big drifts our here although you may be able to weave your way out. The other thing is that there is usually some kind if crack or heave on the way out. Without a plowed resort road or bridge over the heave, you’re kind of on your own. ???

You will likely need to jump around to a few public accesses if that’s what your set on. Most of the East side has very rough ice, and the casino access usually has a huge heave at the access and a breaker in front by Shermans that limits the area you can get to. Maybe Garrison? I’d just pick a resort and pay the $10 access fee.

Best bet would be Garrison if you have a sled or ATV.

Otherwise, pony up the $10 for a nice plowed road at one of the many resorts you will be driving by.

If I plan on running a snowmobile, is there any issues with using a public access? Only ice fished the pond once before. I was hoping to use the north access off 18 as it’s near the cabin. Any concerns with cracks or heaves on a sled?????

Should be good to go. As always things can change fast with temp swings. Lots of rough and jagged ice patches out there so use caution.

I’m sure it’s possible getting out there via public access. I was out there Friday and Saturday and saw snowmobiles and 4 wheelers zipping around, although I don’t know how they accessed. I’m not so sure about that north shore (Wealthwood) access, I drove by it and did not see any vehicles in the lot that would have unloaded there. What I did see was a major heave close to shore. This is the same ridge Red Door has 2 bridges over out of their access. Same for the north Garrison access, major heave right there.
Why not pay the $10 and go out of a resort access? You can drive your vehicle out, or your snowmobile if you are set on the snowmobile.
