Props used on 620 w/250 offshore

What props are all the 620 ranger owners w/250 yamaha offshore using? I’m looking to get another prop for my 2013 620 w/250 offshore. The boat has a 9.9 kicker, Terrova 101 and 4 group 31 agm batteries that make up the main options. Looking for some input from others on your choice of prop and the performance. Thanks for your help.

    Diamond,

I haven’t seen too many of the Rangers running with the Yami Offshore motors. How do you like the combo?

What are you looking to improve with a different prop? Top end, big water handling, hole shot, etc?

I wish I could share my combo, I recently purchased the boat and have not been on the water w/it yet. The prop on the boat is a 15 X 21 but the previous owner did not know the brand. The boat is not available to get any info from the prop right now. Previous owner stated the boat would run 56-58mph all day loaded and a good hole shot with a tournament load or 4 full size people. He noted a significant improvement in performance with the 250 offshore from his previous f250 (non offshore motor). His top end was 61mph with a light load. Overall, if everything I have been told is accurate the boat/motor is propped well right now. To be honest I don’t believe the boat is that fast (top end) and still has a great hole shot from what others have stated but I don’t know.

Why I’m asking around is because I want to purchase 2nd prop so I have a spare for the boat and I’m looking for info from others who are running the same rig. I have studied a couple of forums looking for info on this but it seems to be a limited amount of info. I would have to agree with you, not that many are running this combo. I have spoken to couple of pros with identical rigs and each have had a different prop. One of the props I’m considering is the Yamaha Saltwater II Series with the SDS hub 15 X 21. The SDS (Sound Dampening System) hub was recommended from others who switch to this prop with positive results and no more clunking noise. At some point, prior to buying a prop I will also give Rick from Brainerd Props a call to see what he would recommend, I understand he is the prop guru and has lots of knowledge.

My quest to find the answer is to just ask those who can share their knowledge. I’m more interested in a good all around prop with a good hole shot. Top end speed is not important. I purchased a boat with Yamaha motors and know they are not the title takers on the water, arguably the slowest but their reliability is second to none and for that reason I chose the Yamaha motors. Thanks for your reply.

Have you tapped into Jimmy Bell? He is a pro that runs Ranger/Yami combos. I also have to agree with you giving Rick a call.

    Good luck with your search!

He’s been with Larson for a few years now. Not much info out there on this combo, but I’m sure it’ll be sweet on the water. I wouldn’t be too surprised with the numbers the seller told you and if they are indeed correct, sounds like it’s set up perfectly.

I have a 621 with a 300 offshore with the saltwater series. Get about 55 fully loaded tourney ready. I have a turbo not tried yet. Everyone inhale talked to you are at the top right now. The fastest I have seen in my boat is 58 with a little chop which helps. Rangers are built to ride low which in turn is slower. Just a better ride. What is your max rpms. Should be around 5800 or so. 6000 is max so not much to gain.

I have a buddy with a 2012 Ranger 620 same set up just different batteries. We spent hour upon hours testing props on our boats. I have a wx2100 skeeter. We both added manual jack plates. He had a 21 pitch m series reworked by Croxton. This is his fastest prop. I do have a 21 pitch with cup added with the silent hub system. I would be willing to sell. Other props my Ranger buddy tried were Turbo 23 pitch and one other one I can’t remember. But he currently runs his 21 m series and he also bought a 22 pitch Bravo.

Got the same boat new in September and had it out enough to break motor in and drive it a bit wide open.

It came with a 21m which pushed the boat with 2 of us at 62mph I’m told a pro for ranger had this combo and it was the best for the setup.

I was getting a ping sound from top of motor and was told that the motor should have the SDS prop which will get rid of that noise so after talking to my dealer and ranger the prop has been exchanged out to a saltwater 21 sds. Got the prop in December and have yet to run it.

If you change to a SDS make sure you buy the hourglass washer when the dealer exchanged my prop they did not give me washer which was $90.

Ran the prop. 4 guys in boat it took a bit to get on plane but ran 58 GPS. Today just 2 of us hole shot was good and top end was around 62 GPS. Motor only has 18hrs so not sure if it will get better or worse but it works fine for me. I can’t really compare performance since my last boat was a bass boat and the hole shot was super fast and the 2 stroke was way more snappy

    Forgot to look at rpms

Thanks for your input it was valuable in my decision. Curious about the washer issue, does the hourglass washer come with the prop or is something that needs to be ordered additionally with the prop? Is this washer special for this prop or? Last, did the clunk noise in the motor disappear?
    Thanks again for your help.

The only difference between a”off shore 250″ and a regular f250, is the off shore has stainless steel components to protect the motor from saltwater. It looks to me, you are looking to spend upwards of a $1000 or more, to eek out a extra mph or three. More power to you if that’s your gig. It sounds like the boat is set up quite well at this point, but that is for you to decide. I have a 2025 Lund with a 225 opti with a 19p tempest, which is a far superior rig compared to what you have

Somebody deleted the rest of my post as to start a fight. The far superior rig was just a joke to stur the pot amongst Lund and ranger boys. Sorry if it bothered you. There was more to the post to see it was a sarcastic comment.

    Sure sure Tom. )

There’s only a few that can delete a post…and I can’t see a reason that anyone would do that(?) I haven’t checked with the others, but I’m going to say unintentional operator error.

If anyone takes the time to know you, they would know you’re a friendly pot stirrer. toast

    To your point, Rangers suck

I assume the washer is part of the prop hardware that was not ordered with the sds prop. Dealer thought old hardware would work so I just ordered it. You do need it look the prop up on Yamaha. Nice video of it.
The motor shifts and runs super quiet now no ping noise any more.
