Has anyone bought the 36” Plano AW Tactical case? My longest rod is 32” so I know they’ll fit length wise but seems everyone gets the 42” one. I’d love to save space in the sled if the 36”er works well. Thank you

Yes walleyestudent I am… I used to use a black plastic rod tube that slid over the rod end and hooked onto the cork/reel end with a rubber band sorta thing, I haven’t seen them anywhere for a while but they worked great, I tried modifying fluorescent light tubes but they got too brittle, but they worked okay for a few trips… when I used the tubes I just popped a few minnows in a bait puck and any other tackle/lures into a hard plastic cigarette case, they don’t make those either anymore but then I haven’t really looked for them lately
and like Babe said… Good Fishin!!…

I haven’t, but something to consider is the longer case will let you fit more rod and reel combos. Since you have to stagger the reels in a stairstep pattern, you probably couldn’t easily get 2 36 inch rods in it facing the same way. Your top rod might be 36, the next one down maybe only 32, then a 28.

I can get about 6 combos in my 40 inch Flambeau case ranging from 36 to 28. The more longer rods I try to put in it, the harder it is to make it work.

With that said a 36 inch case should take a decent handful of 32 inch rods. It looks like the layout of the Scheels or Eagle Claw type cases will fit about the same number of rods regardless of how long they all are.

Id say get the smallest case for what you need plus a little extra room. Those Scheels cases look awesome but man do they look BIG. I would have to pull it behind my sled 80% of the time! If you pull your gear out on wheelers or drive trucks out then you have room plus protection. So many variables and that is why they make so many sizes and types.
Most of lakes I fish is no gas motors so I go as light as possible, early ice and late ice.

Frabill makes a nice case similar to the otter. You can fit a 36″ rod in there but that’s it. I can fit 4-5 combos in there. They are bulky. I have yet to find anything that I trust with a noodle tip that isn’t a hard case.

I didn’t want to plan on string tackle in my rod case so I went with the Otter Pro-Tec 40. This case will work great for rod storage to and from the lake. Most place I walk on and have rod holders in my sled so the weight wasn’t a concern. Might also pick up a Otter Sportsman for my panfish rods.

If u need a little protection in ur soft rod case i use golf club bag club tube dividers they come in 6 or 12 pack on ebay cheap the ends are rounded off they are black plastic and come long enough to fit long rods i use um on my 46 inch sturgeon rods with tiny bungee cords on the end around the reels to hold um on

I’ll take my two Otter Sportsmans all day long. They’re not cheap but they’ll last forever. I tried the TUCR inserts but didn’t like them I went back to the original inserts.
