Protecting Helix Units

question for you guys that are running a helix on the ice. Ive seen many make their own base for the unit using a Genz blue box or something custom made. When I see these units they stick out a bunch and there is no protection for the unit whatsoever. Considering the costly investment and the abuse ice fishing can have on gear what are you guys doing to protect your helix units? Specifically thinking if you are dragging your great out in a sled by hand or using an ATV/Snowmobile.

I cut a slot in the foam of my rod locker to hold the head unit for my helix 5 setup, and I also keep a small soft size lunch cooler in my middle console of my shack, I can put the head unit in that and give it some protection if needed as well.

If you mount the gimbal directly to the back or bottom of a Genz box, they don’t stick out too bad. I have mine on a short Ram and it sticks out pretty good. I actually unplug the connections and turn the screen straight down when transporting long distances.

I stick mine in a 5 gallon bucket. can’t think of a more protective solution.

2nd the Trophy Angler bag – it also fits in a 5 gallon bucket

I mounted the gimble high enough that I can swing the face of the helix 5 down over the battery so nothing can harm the head unit

I started a lengthy thread on IDO of guys who built their own shuttles. I thinks . The thread is on page two. Guys are making em so they do in a bucket even the helix 7.
You can also google “in depth outdoors lets see you diy helix shuttle”

Cabelas neoprene screen cover on my H7 when traveling. Road trips or travel where I really want to protect it, I put it in my rapala tackle bag.

Does anyone know if the round bottom trophy angle bag fits a Helix 7? Is there anywhere around the metro to buy them or do you have to order them online?

From the Trophy Angler web site
For Round Bottom Flashers and MarCum Lithium Shuttle

    ● Fits Vexilar Pro Packs, Ultra Packs, Hummingbird & MarCum Lithium Shuttle

Not sure if anyone carries it in the Metro. Marine General and Reeds both carry them

Thanks for verifying that it will just fit. I ordered one from Scheels, they seemed to have the best shipping price at $5

For just protecting the screen, the Cabela’s covers are the best, the official Humminbird Helix brand covers fit too tight, I ripped the thread on one already…

I purchased the cabelas cover for my helix 7, the fit seems to be just right. I could only find it on ebay for some reason
