Looking at a few different skeeters and looking for some insight on these to engines. Boats are wx1850 and wx1900 series boats. Just curious of a comparison of fuel consumption, power, speed, maintenance, cold weather starting, etc…

I have a WX1900 with the hpdi and love it. Top speed is about 50mph that’s loaded with a kicker. I did a 4 day trip this summer to lake of the woods and we had a 25 mile boat ride to the resort plus fishing for 4 days I went through 40 gallons of gas. I didn’t think it was to bad. I think the 1850 and 1900 are close to the same length. I would go for the 1900 for the more HP.

I’ve a 200 hpdi on my MX2025. It handles it well. Hole shot is fine but of course the top speed is 48-50 mph instread of 60 mph or so with the 300hp. I had a bout with bad winter gas that the motor can’t be blamed for. It idles with 4 cylinders and then 6 when put into gear so it can surge on you,…fuel and oil consumption very reasonable,…I would reccomend the motor to anyone.

It’s widely known that the 150hp 4 stroke motor is actually about 160-165hp so it’s got more power than the sticker says and the engine is practically bullet proof, that’s what sold me on it. The price of 2 stroke yamalube is now around $35 a gallon and you carry the extra weight/reduced storage the remote oil reservoir takes up as well, 2 negatives with the HPDI motor, that and the smoke…

That being said I ran a 225hp HPDI motor for 6 years, never had an issue…

Both motors certainly have been time tested & proven. The WX 1900 hull was specifically engineered to the 200 HPDI and overall performance, hole shot, mid range throttle response was second to none in that set up. The WX1850 hull had a step engineered into the rear transom to assist with hole shot and the characteristics of 4- stroke technology.
So, really either motor does very well, but both boats were engineered specifically to each motor for a specific performance reason.
Tough to go wrong with either set up !

From what I’ve read, you’ll only gain a few MPH going with the 1900/hpdi vs the 1850/F150. Boats are almost the same, except the top cap is a bit different, plus a few options. If your looking for better performance, the 1880 w/200hpdi will get you into the mid 50s. Best I’ve seen has been 57 and lighting out of the hole. Here’s a link to a old post comparing the two boats.
