Property Tax Increases

I had to have on of the Chisago county deputy assessors walk through my house earlier this year in order to get my property taxes down. I purchased my home in June of 2020 and in that same year they decided that my assessed value should be 60K more than what I paid. And they wanted to just keep increasing from that value.

I still think they have my home valued too high, and the only reason they give me is because I have a “log house”. It’s half-log siding. For some reason that causes my home value to be higher than my neighbor’s place two doors down, even though they have a three car garage, more sqft, and another acre of land.

I feel lucky here even thou this county is a poor county with one of the highest property taxes in the state. Last couple of years ours has actually dropped and what is causing this is all the new homes that have been built in the county. This way it spreads the tax out over more dollars.
