Propane Tanks Freezing

I use the small, green propane tanks. Is there anyway to keep them from freezing up? I usually get aboutna 1/3 of a tank left and it freezes up and I’ll need to replace it and let it warm back up before using again.

Bring extra green tanks and set one near the heater while it’s still heating. Not too close, don’t want an explosion. lol

Your problems could be worse. Full size wheel and skid houses will have the outside pressure regulator freeze up in the middle of the night and you have a real problem. Wheelhouse owners get to go outside and deal with it, sleeper rental customers have to hope they can get a hold of the resort at 1:00 in the morning. sad

When going out on snowmobile I will put them in an insulated soft-sided cooler with some large hand warmers. Never had any issues. As stated earlier keep the spare bottles near the heat source to keep them warm.

I use a soft cooler with reusable heat packs to keep my batteries warm for my Ion ice auger. There may be room for 1 green canister, or I could buy a slightly larger cooler.

This is a great idea that I’ll be stealing immediately, thanks!

My 1lbs freeze up too when it starts getting low…All you have to do is shake the can or just grab your buddy heater and leave tank on it and shake it. I even do that when its getting low when its not freezing . You might get another ten minutes out of the 1lb lp can. If you have the newer Buddy heater were the can pivots just grab the can and move it up and down . It will then fire right up..

I keep a mapp gas torch with me at all times while fishing. I just warm it up for a second or two with that. Works great for starting a sunflower heater too.

I have not had to deal with this yet, but I bring a few 1lb on overnights for cooking anyway which double as a backup for the big buddy just in case. If its insane cold out, and I woke up from cold, I want it warming a bit while fooling around outside. (Having a truck helps too if thats an option).
