My last trip to mille lacs was hard on my prop. Be careful out in front of the north garrison access!
It’s not damaged too bad but I feel a slight vibration now.
    Motor is a Yamaha F60.
Does anybody have any recommendations for prop repair in the north metro? Is it worth fixing it? I can get a new one for about $130.
Just curious what others are doing.

Call country view right in Stacy. They used to use Russell’s prop in Stacy but he is no longer there

I have had aluminum props fixed at Marks Welding 763-784-0783 it’s on 105th and Hwy 65 across from the old Johns Auto Parts building. He usually takes a while though. When I damaged my last one I decided it was a sign that I needed a shiny one and the aluminum is my spare now. What a difference SS made is amazing.

Prop MD in Plymouth is where I go. Maybe not considered “north” metro though.

Good to know about the shallow access area. Hopefully the recent rain helped with the water levels.

Is the vibration you notice only when its just in gear? Might not be a bad idea to check your prop shaft…

Fish Mille lacs Weekly, Water is very low, be careful on all the public accesses, and on some of the reefs. It will take a lot more rain than we have gotten to make big dent there.

on another note PropMD is the place to go for me. They do good work at what I consider reasonable prices, I have never seen so many props in one place

Thanks guys. I’ll probably call countryview since that’s where I bought the motor from.

I only feel the vibration as i take off, once I’m up on plane it’s smooth. Maybe I’ll bring the boat to them and have them check it out.

Grubson- That is similar to what I had with my boat and it ended up being a bent shaft. Better to know earlier so it doesn’t damage the gears. One way to check yourself is to spin the prop fast by hand and look for any wobble at all in the center of the prop bolt.

Thanks Bob, I’ll check it out tonight. Im really hoping that’s not the case. I had just come off plane and was basically idling when I hit rock. Hopefully I’ll get lucky.
I ordered a new prop from Countryview Marine for $123. I can pick it up tomorrow and hopefully be back in action. I was told repair starts at $85 so I’ll look into fixing my original this winter for a spare.

The shaft may not look bent when spinning it by hand to the naked eye. Put your motor as far down as you can and take 2×4 or something stiff. Mark the center of the shaft and spin. When I bent my shaft I could feel the wobble vibration. Spun it by hand and it didn’t look like it was out of wack. Marked it, spun it again, and that told a different story. It doesn’t take much.

It’s all good. I place one end of the 2×4 on the ground and mark the center of the shaft on the board. The main thing is you have something marked to the center of the shaft that won’t move. One could clamp it to the motor if there is a good spot. It is even better to attach a screwdriver or pencil to the 2×4 pointed right to the center of the shaft almost touching it. ¼” will cause a lot of vibration.

I was thinking I’d put a long straight pick tool in the end of the prop shaft and spin it. Essentially lengthening the shaft to hopefully magnify any imperfections.
Thanks again for the advice guys.

Ron, I agree. Countryview marine has always been great for me.

I didn’t have them work on my prop but I just got my boat back from Country View after it running rough for two years and trying to chase it down. I took it to two other professional marine mechanics and what they fixed didn’t solve the problem. Country View had it diagnosed within a couple days, and fixed the problem. After two years my motor is finally running the way it should be thanks to them. I can’t recommend these guys enough after my experience with them. Extremely professional.

    That’s great to hear Mahto,
They’re are great people and easy to deal with as long as you can find a place to park! They’re in high demand and very busy around there.
Got the prop on my boat and everything seems good. I think I avoided any damage to the lower unit.
I will find out for sure tomorrow.

Three Lakes Enterprises is a nice place to get a prop fixed or skeg. They are near New Richmond, WI.
