What do you guys use to store your rippin rap and slab rap style baits? Is there boxes out there deep enough to use like fly boxes for tungsten jigs?

Bringing this back up as I’d like to see some responses too.

I bought an open box and laid some soft foam in it slightly thicker than the depth of the box. The lid compresses the foam and holds the baits pretty snug when closed.

I see myself accidentally dumping the whole thing out on the ice though since the baits sit above the level of the box with the lid open.

The spoon boxes with slots look interesting but it doesn’t seem like those would work with baits like Slab Raps and Rippin Raps.

Does anybody use a plain 3600 style box and put just one or two baits in each compartment?

I use small rubber bands to keep the hooks together. You can stack more in a box that way because the hooks don’t tangle. Otherwise I just use a standard Plano with only a few dividers installed.

I took a single compartment 3600 box and some 3/4” closed cell foam we were throwing away at work. Cut it to size and cut some 1/2” wide by 5/8” deep grooves in it. Works great so far. I wanted to protect them a little better since they spend most of their time bouncing around in my ATV.

I use a plano 3600 and buy orthodontists bands from amazon. I put rubber bands around the hooks of the jigging raps and ripping raps so you can fit a bunch in a compartment at once with the hooks not getting tangled.

usually you get a tool to put the bands on in the packs from amazon for people worried with larger fingers.

Try these boxes out. They are new on the market and I used them last year and loved how they kept my baits in place preventing tangles.

How many are you trying to store? 10 or 150?? I use 3600’s for bulk storage, but have smaller boxes that fit in my pocket that I can carry 10 or so easily. Difference of 100% mobile or having my back-stock in my sled.

If you need to conserve space and weight, try these:

I cut strips of foam to hold the lures from wiggling around and getting scratched up(new trick I learned this year – find an old couch cushion that’s going to the trash and cut the foam out. Use the foam for padding all sorts of stuff).
