What did you just say you guys? A pretty face with nice cleavage with a booty the size of a car trunk with the same ripples is not worth listening to?
Smithfield Foods has announced another 2 pork plant closures coming this week.
On the east coast, it looks like the poultry industry is starting to feel the effects.

Especially when Smithfield is owned by the Chinese!! A buddy of mine just sent me a big article about how the Chinese acquired Smithfield a number of years ago.A lot of their pork is also exported to the Chinese market since pork is the number one meat protein item consumed in that country.
Makes a guy wonder why some of them feel the need to eat bats, pangolins, and other questionable wildlife.
You forgot dogs and cats…..
You see they are so brainwashed that they believe if they eat batwings they will fly. Or if they eat monkey brains, they will be smarter. I am sure there are others. people must be really bored over there that they make stuff up to get you to eat weird crap
And if you eat enough Cats…. well…. Never mind.
Support you local butchers and meat markets!!!
Agreed, but they are going to be in big trouble if the processing plants continue to close, as most butchers/meat markets don’t process live animals.

Most of the ones in the big cities don’t kill and process. But the ones in rural communities do. Those are the ones that are going to have long waiting lists if this continues on.

Exactly.
Our two local butchers/markets are swamped with business and will continue to be. There’s no better way to go about it than buying from a place that takes the live animal in one end of the building, and hands you your meat over the front counter. They don’t rely on some factory packing plant mass-producing lower quality meats. They have direct connections to local farmers and provide a better quality product at often better prices while keeping earnings local.
I wouldn’t bat an eye if the largest (some foreign owned) meat processing plants go closed. Good riddance.

Only problem is that would put 100’s of local pig farmers out of business as well… there’s nothing good about having a foreign owned company being responsible for 1000’s of American lives. Sad any way you look at it.

What are some of these places? I know of 4 separate fairly prominent meat markets in Central and Northern MN, and none of them do their own processing beyond deer. Not doubting it, but just curious since I don’t think that is very common anymore unfortunately.
If you can butcher a deer you can butcher a pig.
I’ve done a few pigs before, there isn’t much too it (other than when you shoot one square between the eyes with a .44 and it stands there staring at you like nothing happened) lol
Farm to table fellas
Get out the knife, eliminate the middle man and support your local farms
Stittsworth Meats in Bemidji does at least some of their own butchering of beef. They have a mobile slaughtering unit that travels to the farmer.
There are different classes of meat markets. Most butcher shops can’t sell the meat they process to the public but if you buy the animal from local farmer or own the animal they can process that animal for you. Some meat markets are FDA inspected to process said animals and sell to public, but this is at such a small scale compared to the big plants that are closing down, there is not a meat shortage but if this hog and cattle market doesn’t turn around fast there will be a farmer shortage.

Lakes Area Co-op Locker Plant in Perham and Mills Locker Plant in N.Y. Mills Mn. Both do an excellent job. We have all of our beef and pork processed in Perham. They kill and process your own or they also buy from local farmers and process to sell 1/4 to a whole animal, cut to your liking.

FDA has no jurisdiction over meat products whatsoever. Not to be technical but meat falls under USDA jurisdiction.

Huettl’s in Lake City, MN
The Smokehouse in Durand, WI
Gunderson’s in Mondovi, WI
Greg’s Meats off Hwy 52 near Cannon Falls
Dennison Meat Locker
I have personally helped a neighbor offload beef cattle at 3 of these places in the last few years for locals who bought from him. It’s a great way to support farmers, small businesses, and skip the over-priced low quality large processing plants that are corporation owned.
Small meat markets around my home usually have local farm suppliers and only can process so many animals in a day regardless of the amount of animals needing to go to slaughter. If anything the prices will increase some due to supply and demand.
We need to look at this as a national issue, not a local or regional issue to get our meat processed.
I could process my own pork or beef if needed. I know of small butchers who will take in beef or pork. They will slaughter and process.
They will not be doing 20K hogs a day. I know of people who can do a couple hundred chickens a day. They won’t be processing a million chickens a day.

Yep, I believe you got it. You’re seeing beyond your own front lawn and recognize there’s a potential for some constipation in the meat supply process.
Remove some key elements out of the “digestion” (bulk processors) and you’ll have too much backing up where it all begins. The ranchers/hog farms.
This is very very bad news for farmers and consumers. Producers can’t just decide not to bring animals to market. They need to go when they need to go. If not they are killed and buried. They have younger animals coming and they need to keep the process going. They can’t just change processors either.
This will have very long term effects in economies.

These are both correct. Everyone needs to look past their own nose about this, it’s gonna be bad for a lot of disparate people for quite some time and that’s IF we can all stay home for another few weeks. Anything else is telling lies that might make yourself feel better.
