I’m getting a little bored using the camp sites at Afton and Willow River, does anyone know of any areas off the St Croix River or in the Hudson, River Falls, Stillwater area that allows primitive tent camping? I asked the DNR and they weren’t sure of anything and recommended I check specific locations and postings.

Wherever you end up camping, be sure to bring plenty of chunks of bored to make a nice fire.

Check out the islands north and south of the somerset landing. This section can be found on the St croix river website (nps.gov), section Hwy 8 to the high bridge. I used to camp here all the time when I lived over their. Otherwise you can try camp on the Hudson islands but it will be about as primitive as big island on minnetonka….

Frontenac State Park downstream of Red Wing has some good views.

There’s a set of stair that run down to the river (“run” lol). It’s 400 + feed down and seems like 2 miles coming back up, but cool rock formations along the way.

I was wondering the same thing about you mrgreen

I get up there around a dozen times a year. The fishing usually sucks but it’s a beautiful area!

Usually I’m in my green pro-v, but I get the Grady out there 3-4 times a year too. She kind of stands out lol

Just checked the area near somerset landing. No camping signs everywhere. Maybe I should move to Canada where people are allowed to actually do stuff

Maybe……..but I think permission or permits are required for Crown Land also.
