Well I got offered 20k and a boat for mine yesterday. If my kids didn’t like tubing and stuff so much I would have considered it. I was offered a 1988 1700 prov tiller and 20k for my 2006 triton 202

I must be the one guy that doesn’t know about this boat price explosion. I posted a 1957 Alumacraft Deep C on Craigslist this week for $1400. I boat collector contacted me and educated me on what I actually had, and the trailer is a Tee Nee which is highly sought after and worth around $1200 all buy itself, he said I was at least $1000 undervalued. Hmmm….

I always thought a boat was an investment in my enjoyment and love for fishing. I never thought it as a financial profit investment.

There are a lot of people with boats that may have appreciated (myself included), but that will not be the norm for long. There are also a lot of people who are going to be sitting with 10 year loans on boats that are worth thousands less than what they owe. In the 08/09 mess I was too young to capitalize on the situation with properties and recreational vehicles. This time I’ll be ready and waiting. A neighbor just told me his daughter and her husband built a split level 2000sq ft. house for $400,000 in rural MN shock . Bubbles are going to burst.

Slight subject change, but the prices of side by sides could rival that of boats. There are people shelling out $25-30k+ for a machine that was worth half of that a few years ago and does more sitting than anything.

Brought my boat to the boat center last week to have them install a new graph. Got to talking about boat prices and he said they are all sold out for the year. So is almost every other dealer. If you buy a boat today you are buying a 2022.

Told him I paid 33k 5 years ago for my alumacraft competitor 175. He said I would likely get every penny of that back if I were to sell it today

Local dealer said 2022 boats are already looking at a 10% markup. Not sure if that is due to demand or materials. But if this is a bubble, I am curious to see how that plays out with current year model pricing.

Am I the only one who thinks in 2022/2023 the bubble is going to pop? All these people buying boats and other outdoor equipment last year and this year who normally would be traveling or doing other activities. Once those activities are more easily attainable they will look to dump their boat/rv/etc.

I hear this reasoning a lot and it makes sense but im not sure it will happen to the extent some suggest. im sure that some folks will dump their toys but some who are new to fishing or new to snowmobiling or whatever they bought in the last year will find they like it and will hold onto their stuff.

I think generally speaking a recession or economic downfall is the only way you will really see a mass dumping of toys

Gov’t cannot allow a recession or economic downfall, so they will artificially keep making the economy grow. My wife is in the financial field and had 2 seminars this week, the experts are saying to expect much of the same for at least 2 more years, and even then it will just slow down, not crash.

On the boat sales subject, I listed an old Alumacraft on Craigslist/Facebook for double what I thought it was worth with best offer. I was contacted by a collector that said the trailer was worth what I was asking alone, collectible. I had several serious buyers, 2 of which made over asking price bids site unseen, one guy seeming even desperate. I expected the buyer to be a collector, but ends up it was just a guy looking for an old boat and had missed out on so many that he was willing to offer way over asking to secure it. Worked out for me, and for him I guess.

I agree with others that the market will not be flooded with cheap outdoor gear in a few years. Even before the pandemic, people were moving towards outdoor activities. The National and State Parks have been booked solid for years now. Younger people are camping and getting out more.

The flow of gear sold down to the younger generation has not stopped as people gain more wealth and want to upgrade. So there are always plenty of buyers for this stuff.

Just like I do not expect a ton of used cars and trucks on the market either. Prices will stay high for all of this stuff so you just have to bite the bullet and go for it.

I don’t know if this one is overpriced or I’m just delusional, but 40k (or 38k now) for a 11-12 year old boat seems crazy. This is the type of boat I’m looking for, but I would buy a brand new Impact or Alumacraft for 5-10k more.

I came across the same listing and was intrigued until I made it to the price. I couldn’t see myself offering close to that for an aluminum boat that age, regardless of condition. At 38k he’s not interested in throwing in the graph either.
