It’s getting to be that time to do the preseason work for the up coming archery deer season. I spent the last week hauling brush and building up this brush burm to block my entrance and exit to my stand(sorry pic is blurry). It’s pretty open in these pines so the deer can easily see me coming and going to stand. This should help quite a bit. I have one more stand to hang and then it’s time to start shooting the bow.

Nice work, that’s a lot of hauling.

You’re absolutely right. I was just thinking the other day about stand sites and placement.

Also, I like to get the time lapse “plot watcher” cams set up to see the direction of movement in/out of the fields on my property. It’s interesting to see how this changes year to year.

Also, I need to get at least one more portable stand. Hate the idea of giving up the comfort of a ladder stand, but need to have a stand that’s easier to move quickly and quietly.

Just added some elevated shots to the archery practice routine. The top of my kid’s play fort is remarkably similar to a tree stand, so I’ve been shooting from there. Effective? Yes. Do I look like a total dork coming down the side to exit the fort? Affirmative.

I’ve switched to all ladder sticks and portable stands. I think they hide better than regular ladder stands. I’m so far behind this season but still looking forward to it. I’ve had cams out since may that haven’t been checked and my fall plots have not been planted. If I finally make it up in August I will be working sunrise to sunset trying to get stuff planted and stands set. Ugh!
