Preseason Tune-up

I took Ripley to a game farm this morning for a primer for pheasant season. We’ve trained a fair amount, but this was the first time we’ve been able to put it all together (I’ve shot pigeons, quail, chukar over him, and he’s found wild pheasants).

He did great! I’m one proud papa.

Thanks to Ed Erickson who worked with Ripley a lot and answered any dumb question that I had and the NAVHDA guys who have helped me, too.

Cool picture. I love hunting behind a good dog. Have a good season!

Boy does he ever look like he has some personality in that photo! Isn’t it great to see your pup work for the first time on pheasants and succeed? Proud dog parent moment!

Now might be the time to try grouse?

I concur, 10-13-2017 at Milaca WLMA about 8:00 am would be the perfect time!

Oh, does he ever have a personality! He’s a goofball and quite the little devil, at times. devil

We took another trip yesterday and worked some tougher cover (CRP field). I also brought my FW along for her first pheasant hunt. Both did well! We had zero breeze, but Ripley was on fire. I had to laugh when he retrieved the first rooster of the day, purposely avoided me, and brought it to my wife. rotflol

    Next up: wild birds!
