I am using the TUC Dead Stick,20# Suffix Mono main line to a leader made from 50# Suffix 832 to a #6 VMC Treble w/ the epoxy tear drop in the crotch of the hook.
Out of curiosity, why do you have heavier leader then main line? Is it for abrasion resistance when the fish is right under the hole doing circles?
I’ll let Dave answer but couldn’t resist offering my two pennies. I’m thinking it’s heavier leader to prevent the “toothy” northern pike from biting through the line. I used to use wire leader, but maybe that is why I got fewer strikes?
