What is the best call out there right now under 250 bucks. i used my buddies fox pro before and liked it. He said he paid around 150$ for it. I was looking at alpha dog by primos. Anybody that can give me any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

Foxpro Wildfire would be where I’d look. Lots of good features and plenty of memory/sound space for most needs, but still small enough to be portable and a reasonable price tag. Keep in mind whatever you buy, you have to carry thing thing wherever you hunt.

Or even the last generation Spitfire if you can get a deal on it. I’m seeing lots of these calls for $100 or less because it’s not been replaced in the lineup. Sound capacity is limited, but I get around this by having one card for preadators, one for turkey sounds, etc. If you can get one for <100, these are a great call for just starting out. No, they don’t have all the bells and whistles, but my experience was that the call was the least of my problems as I tried to learn how to hunt.

If you watch Foxpro’s site, they have occasional deals on refurbished calls.

This is my 2nd year running the Alpha Dog. I really like it. The pre-loaded hunts by Randy Anderson have been good to me. I like how they have the pauses built into the sequences of calls. I also like the ease of use/remote control interface. I especially like the pre-programmed quick buttons for right after my first shot. I’ve got it programmed to go into a wounded yote.

I think my call is louder than the my buddy’s Spitfire, but it’s a good call too. Like Grouse stated, you gotta carry all this stuff with you, in and out. I bought this bag from Cabelas to carry my call. I keep extra bullets in one pocket and the remote in the other.

I just bought a cheap cammo back-pack from Gander for $17.00. I haul my Hellfire around in it with extra batteries, a range finder, shooting sticks, mouth calls, and other odds-n-ends. I also added a cheap key-chain style c-clip to a handle on the pack to quick-clip my seat cushon onto the back-pack. After years of carrying “stuff,” its now all over my shoulders – along with the gun. Hands free now!
