new property to play on

I picked up 3 new properties today to predator hunt on. The first one, is a great spot for north winds. I’ve had them howling back at me while howling on the road. Took 8 years to get this farmer to say ok.

The second on is such an interesting place. I trap a property to the west of it. Coyotes leading in and out of all over the place. I walked around for awhile, and saw enough sign to peak my interest. Not a lot of good travel ways for me to get in and out without letting everything know I’m there. A day of more exploring should resolve that and get a wind pattern put together.

The 3rd one is a property that I have been trying to get on for almost 11 years. Owner is hard core for NO ONE to be on his land. He had a gate fail this morning and cattle were out on the road. Spent about an hour helping him, and he softened up. Called me late today to say thanks again…and offered that I could predator hunt his land. No other animals except coyotes. He that owns the land, makes the rules Even though the 3rd pic doesn’t look like much, there is a creek that zig-zags across, north to south. The coyotes travel very heavily from a marsh to the north to a marsh to the south via that creek bed. Its about a mile from my house, and I get coyotes responding to a howl call on a very regular basis from that land. Now, if I could get a couple days of perfect weather conditions and help for my mom….

Congrats Randy always nice to have more area to hunt especially that close to home.

I really like aerial photos but have a hard time visualizing with out actually seeing it physically. Is north up on all the photos? Trying to find the creek in the 3rd photo even enlarging, have a hard time finding it.

I save a snap shot of all the properties I can hunt via a satelite image (north up or true north pending the site)

That creek in the 3rd shot looks like a brown fence line. Its a man made drainage ditch and appears more like a fence line than a traditional meandering creek. Just waiting on a little snow for Christmas

Blue – creek (high grass/brush along it)

    Red – hunter positions

    Yellow – wind directions

Have a dumb question …..With the wind direction going from right to left as the yellow line indicates….. Would it work to sit in the brush and trees on the down wind side of the creek ( if there is elevation there ) and put the Ecaller 40-50 yards on the upwind side of the creek, to help mask scent?

Tom, you nailed it on the elevation. The elevation is horrible if your down in the creekbed area. The satelite image doen’t show a good detail, but there is about 30′ to 50′ elevation rise on the east side of the property overlokking the creek bed and all the swampy brush

Congrats Randy on your new predator hunting properties! I believe we will be seeing some more pics of those areas with some dead coyotes in them!

Randy how are you setting up in the second pick? I have a few areas that have those long fingers coming out and struggle getting into the right set to make them work for me.

Tom, I’m working on permission for the farm to the west (all fields) – I haven’t had the time to get in and scout it yet. I’ll be seeking the best vantage point to see those “gaps” and anything that comes out for a peek.
What I do NOT want is a set where they can come and investigate by 100% means of a treeline. odd would be too much in their favor
