Just got in from making 3 sets tonight. With the dusting of snow we got here, I thought we would have enough. Almost full moon and just a little more snow would have been perfect. The winds died down here at about 6;30, and clear sky.

On my second set, I saw something move in the field about 100 yards down wind from me. By the time I got the red light out, it was gone. It took me about 10 minutes to walk back to my truck, and a couple started howling about a mile or so to the north of me. Drove up to a farm near where I thought they may have been – blanked… Oh well, sure felt dam good to put some air through my calls. This weather ignited my other passion.

The urge to dog hunt this year is starting to take over my sleep. This is the first year I am going to call.

Very cool. We can’t hunt them at night in SD, but we had fun messing with them with the caller. My buddy Jeff shot one Saturday AM. Nice big dog that was very white. I had spotted him the night before in the deer stand. He came charging in to the call and Jeff stoned him at 130 yards. I’ll try to get a pic from Jeff.

Already thinking a bit about dog hunting while sitting in the tree stand. I’ve had two encounters in the last two weeks that were well before dark. 7 yards and 25 yards with the bow, full draw; its like they just know your shooting lanes. Only positive is they both approached from directly down wind and had no idea I was above them. Adds some reassurance to a guy’s scent control regime
