Tonight my son and I had some extra time so we decided to slip out to one of my favorite spots for a little evening calling. After a little pre-game discussion about stealth we slipped through a picked cornfield and down the hill into a marsh that borders an alder choked swamp. I had the call and Critter about 70 yds out and Mitch and I had a great vantage point overlooking the whole area.
After giving the place some time to settle I started in with the Bandit on low volume. At the three minute mark a coyote appeared out of nowhere and started slinking through the cattails towards us. I whispered to Mitch that we had some action and he quickly aquired the coyote in the scope. We both watched the coyote work its way towards the call and saw it notice the Critter. It’s ears perked up and it went into a sneak.
At about 90 yds the coyote stopped in a little clearing in the marsh and I told Mitch to “take him”. On cue, Mitch’s AR barked and dumped the coyote on the spot. We both came a little unglued but regained our composure and finished out the set, hoping for another taker, but no such luck. After the set we headed down to collect Mitch’s prize and snap some pictures. It was a great experience, I couldn’t be happier for him. Welcome to the brotherhood, kid…
