Well, I hope the snow we have coming in tonight amounts to something. Coyotes tonight were very active just before sunset. I missed a 300 yrd shot on one barking at me. Big coyote with a pretty silver/black pelt.

Had a few others howl back, but nothing wanted to come in fast and furious. Hopefully with the snow, they’ll be hungry and aggressive

Pat, you guys still have too many coyotes around the Sparta area?? From a couple different forums, I see Sparta guys posting with a lot of activity. Between trapping and calling, I have the population near my house knocked way down. A lot of my clients are now my competition for land access. 10 years ago, I didn’t know of anyone here calling. Now, I know of about 15 guys that have gotten into it.

The best part of finally having them knocked down so far is the come back in the red fox population. With very minimal effort in trapping, I am having a fantastic year so far on reds. They are aren’t worth much for pelts, and my buyer really doesn’t want them. I’ll tan a bunch and sell them on ebay.

Maybe we should get together out there in Jan and hopefully shoot them like prairie rats?
