How many people shot coyotes in the summer. i know there fur is not good but i have been seeing some in a farm field and the farmer dont care if some one hunts them. I also just got my hands on a AR-15 .223 that i can use if i have my dad with my. Who would take this chance and who would pass. I have also been seeing lots of fawns over there and dont want to many to be killed. So what would you do.

Do whatever you have to to let the air out of them legally and whatever you have to in order for it to not be wanton waste. It can be practice shooting to ensure a quick clean kill on that future Pope and young Buck that might have a better chance of surviving as a fawn this summet

Shoot to kill! Anytime you have a chance at taking a yote out of the picture do it.

If your not in it for the fur. If you want a better survival rate of fawns then go for it. That’s what I would say.

Agreed coyotes need killing no matter what time of year it is

I hunt/guide coyotes all summer long. It is great practice to keep up on calling skills. Plus, as you take them out, and pups mature….you will usually have more moving back in faster than you want. Plus it helps in keeping the dust from settleing on your AR!

I’ve been told by an IL hunter that he loves calling yotes in the spring cuz they’re under a lot of pressure to bring food in for the pups. Is this true?

Yes and no… In some areas, by Spring, the coyotes are so educated from people calling them over and over again with the same calls. These old females get pretty wise.

But early spring (pup time) the motherly instinct kicks in and calls like a distress pup, pup barks, and such are deadly.

In late spring, yes, mothers are very busy feeding their pups and teaching them to hunt. A very favorable thing with late Spring is the lack of other hunters. So many guys quit by Feb. That gives a few months for momma to get relaxed and make a mistake. By mid summer, you have a lot of curious pups wondering off, and they are easy targets to call in.
