Tough Critters…

Kind of a delayed post but I went out Wednesday night for a few sets. The first two were dry but on the third set, I had a hard charger do a fly-by on the call from behind me. I can’t believe how fast this thing was going, he must have caught a whiff of me and caught all 5 gears. I swung on him and missed at about 60yds… re-grouped and rolled him at around 90yds. Watched him in the scope for a bit to make sure he was down and kept calling. As I’m scanning I catch motion out in the field, the dang thing is up and running … fired 3 more shots at him and didn’t connect. I picked up my gear and walked over to the spot, lots of blood sprayed and pooled up and by the look of his tracks he was hurting bad. I trailed him for aobut 400-500 yds and couldn’t recover him. I hate not being able to finish off a critter but couldn’t do much more about it. Those coyotes are some amazingly tough hombres…

that explains why I was shooting behind him… I didn’t compensate for the extra gear

That happens quite a bit. They aren’t dead, till they are dead. They are tough as nails and can take a heck of a lot before they expire.
