I have found the best way is to go without the float and arm. I just let the puck and cord hang on the side of the hole. Have just enough cord out so that your puck is just below the ice. This helps so that when a fish gets close to the hole it doenst get caught up. If you have the puck to far below the ice, your more than likely going to get tangled up. I just have never seen the point in the float and arm. They just get in the way.

What he said. One thing I will add is that I will pull the ‘ducer out of the hole when I hook a fish. This way it is out of the way well before the fish come up to the hole.

I have been using the float without a holder arm and when the fish is at the hole if needed I will just lift the float out of the hole with my left arm as my right arm lifts the fish up and out of the hole. Nobody likes problems but this problem tells me you are catching fish and thats GREAT.
    Thanks, Bill

You could try this or maybe even make one your self.

That is sweet. Too bad they don’t make one for the common 6” hole.
    Thanks, Bill

I do the same as wallster, get rid of the float. I just wrap the cord around the unit so that it’s the right length. Usually I just wrap around the plastic nuts that hold the unit to the box/carrier. On mine there’s just enough space between the unit and carrier so that the cord wedges nice and snug but not tight enough to kink or damage the cord. Works fine, had mine like this for years without any ill effects.

My bud cut a slot on the top of his carrier, just wide enough for the cord. He uses the float stop on the back side for depth control. His works out rather well.

If I am planning on staying in the same spot I just drill another hole next to the hole I am going to fish.

I’ve cut two holes very close together…one for the Marcum and the other to fish out of.

    I don’t know…that works for me.

Thought I was really going to miss the float when I jumped to marcum, but I don’t, Personally I’d run without it like birddog suggested.

Best suggestion really it to take it out of the hole.

I made a bracket that holds it just under the Hole and out of the way. If I have a big one on then the best bet is to take it out of the hole or Drill another one then you really don’t have to worry at all.

If you are fishing stationary, cut another hole like Brian suggested. Either way, get rid of the float. There is a reason MarCum’s don’t come with them, you don’t need them.

A couple tips, let out just enough cord to reach the bottom of the ice. As the ice gets thicker, you will want ot pull the flasher out when you get one. Right now, you can still get by without doing that. Oh, and get rid of that float

I know we had some crabby cloud cover over the full moon but just wonderin if anybody shot a song-dog or a red? Still yet to get one this year but could be inpart to my recent polar plunges . I always love hearing the encounter stories.

Unfortunatly no, hunter-dan and myself were not able to get anything, or see anything. There is a slight story invovled with both hunts being cut short due to hunter-dan falling into the same crick twice. The first time was rather serious and i had to finda way to pull his out of the water. Pretty funny watching him go down tho.
I do know coppertop and gobbler did have success on a red tho. It is on a previous post so look it up, it was a great looking animal.

Ilove to hunt the dark of the moon on clear nights. Seems the will come out into the open more than with a full moon where they tend to skirt cover. With snow cover you can see them coming and then hit the light and kill’em. Last full me and buddy had one sneak in from the wrong way (the way we came in) and get really close but he cut our tracks and headed out. Thought the 870 was gonna get to talk to him but that’s the way it goes. Called it a night at 2am. Hope to get after them this weekend
