Brutal in the wind today

I had a friend drive over this morning that I haven’t had the chance to hunt with since last year. So last night, I made the rounds to a number of farms that I have not hunted yet. Hoping to get on a few coyotes that have not been pressured yet.
Our first stand was a 30 acre tree farm with dense evergreens and cut corn all around. About 10 minutes into it, I rattled off a challenge call. Big mistake. Had a red out in the corn coming in from behind that we didn’t see until it did a 180 and ran with after-burners.

We did three other stands along the Crawfish river bed with winds howling at 20+ mph – saw nothing

Next farm was a place I had never been before. Mostly flat river bed with a gradual slope at the furthest end away. Cut corn with two wooded lots that each came to a point with about 100 yrds in-between them. Had two come rushing in and went out of sight in a little swell in the brush on the edge of the field. We were both drawn up and ready, but they real hunters used the swell to get perfectly down wind of us…BUSTED. I saw them bolt out of there directly away from us.

Made two more stand on the way back home. saw nothing.

So here is the strange part of the entire day out calling. We have big fields and small patches of woods/brush around here. Normally, a good quality high ptch rabbit squeel, and the red-tail hawks come from a mile around. Not uncommon to have them land in a tree above me. Today, I saw hawks flying in the distance, and even the hawks avoided the calls. Signs of someone else having them educated????
