Well my year had started out with a bang on my very first setup on the 22nd I called in my first yote of the year at around 175 yds.and of course I missed (first time jitters again) and since then nothing and i mean nothing. I’ve beenhunting usually 8-9 sits per weekend in various locations around the dunn county area. I have a digital caller I cant think of the name offhand but it’s got the four different sounds to each card and I’ve used just about every single one on there with no results and the one yote I had called in was with my Raspy Coaxer hand call. I’ve been trying to stick with the pleading chicken and the distressed housecat and of course the distressed rabbit because of the abundance of farms and pheasants in the area but nothing yet to come. But yesterday I picked up another chip that has the Yellow-hammer on it and I’ve been told by others that they’ve had success using it so now my spirits are a little bit more revamped. But if anyone knows of something that they’ve heard that works please give me an idea. I’ve even started to hunt more and more at night after my b-ball practices but yet no results. Any help or responses would be greatly apprecieated and keep on chasin em’

Hey, I am by no means a great coyote hunting mind but did live around some good ones out in South Dakota. From what i gathered as soon as it started to get late in the year and the coyotes had heard most all of the calls. They would go to almost all howling and locator calls, since the mating season is just around the corner they would most use coyote calls as they claimed the coyotes were less nervous of coming in if they thought another coyote was in the area on it’s turf. For sure just my .02 cents, give em hell out there

January 19, 2007 at 4:48 am #283981st off….. i by no means am a predator hunter. I went for the first time last year and only went 2 times (didn’t see a thing). This year however has been completely different to say the least. I went out for the 3rd time this year today after work and called in my 1st yote’. The other 2 times I went out I have called in a red fox each time. I didn’t get any but did get my 1st shot off tonight.
I have been using the “Randy Anderson” Signiture series mouth calls by Primos. I watched the video that came w/the calls several times and practiced my calling until I felt it sounded the same. (My girlfriend really loved it, let me tell ya) Like I said at the beginning. I’m not an expert but, my personal opinion is that a lot of guys are using electronic calls and the mouth calls are giving out a different sound. I have a friend that has hunted in the same areas over the past 3 years w/ a electronic call and has only called in 1 fox. I may be experiencing beginners luck, hard to say, but whatever I’m doing, it’s working. Stick w/ it SS and they will eventually come.

Good Luck and mix it upJanuary 19, 2007 at 5:48 am #28401First off… you have to be a little leary about electronic calls. If others in the area are using the same calls… or they become acustomed to them… they will be leary. You need to change up every so often. Use the electronic calls. If you don’t see anything within 15-20 mins, change to a mouth call. Practice, practice, practice before you go out. Mouth calls can be pretty effective if you do it right, especially with mating season around the corner. Make sure you have your basis covered… where are you located… what way is the wind…. can they sneek around behind you… things like this all need to be taken into consideration. Yote’s are pretty smart. But you, as the hunter, need to change up in order to stay one step ahead of them. Don’t use the same call each night out. They will get used to that sound. Good Hunting
