I have a Sako .222 Rem that my father in law gave me. Is this a decent round for rodents and predators? It has peep sights so I would have to get it tapped and a nice scope. One of me question is what kinda scope would be ideal for this round? Fill me in on what to do.

How old is this piece? I am surprised it is not drilled and tapped for a scope.

I love the .222 caliber. Very accurate. My father, brother and I have all owned .222’s. We used to do a great deal of fox hunting in the winter months back in the 60’s and 70’s until the mange devistated the fox population. It is more than enough gun to bring down fox and coyotes. I sold my .222 a few years ago (Rem Model 700) along with all the reloading equipment that I had. I had a Weaver scope on it. It was very accurate up to 250 yards. If you are planning on using it for fur bearers then I would suggest using a solid bullet which will not damage the hide.

I would go as far as saying one of the best! Not legal for deer. With hollow points in turns prairie dogs in to spray!

If you are planning on dog hunting, I would go for a veriable scope up to 24x as they will reach out and touch critters at 250 if you can squeeze the trigger softly enough.

    Seko…nice!

Agreed That calibre is perfect for coyotes and fox and just about any other predator

Okay found out more about this gun. It is a Sako L46 It doesn’t have to be tapped just have to order the right ring and mounts for it. They are doing that. What scope should I go with? I have a leupold 3×9 vari x 2 that I could swap from my .270. Question here. If I was to buy another scope next summer what should it be and would you put it on the .222rem or the .270? A dilema now. I really would hate to spend $100 on something I may not be happy with.

You will be happy with the 222. They are a blast to shoot and will do a number on coyotes if you hit em in the vitales. I made a good head shot this fall on a yote this fall and the results were awesome.
