Dodge Boy and myselfhit the woods this morning a little before daylight to spend some time in the woods hunting for a mixed bag. We started off trying to call a few areas for coyotes. All 3 areas we tried came up empty We started the morning off with a light breeze and 14 chilly degrees. On the first stand we got to watch the sunrise in all its glory. It was sure nice to wake up to a bright warm sun. Just as the sun was rising, you could really feel the temp drop….brrrr. When we got back to the truck it had dropped to 9 degrees, even with the sun I started this stand with a challenge howl and finished with a rabbit distress. We then moved up the road aways and made a pretty good hike to an open alfalfa/corn feild surrounded by woods. We used the e-caller with a coyote pup distress on this stand. The conditions were excellent I thought, but we didn’t get a response. Our third and final calling area had us on a hillside overlooking a floodplain. The area was pretty thick with limited visability, but still enough room to make a shot. The only response we got here was the crows coming and perching on the trees above us. We then put the calls away and went for some squirrels. But before that Dodge had a crow call and was having a little fun with them. He called a few crows right to us We didn’t get a shot at any of them, but it was cool to see them come in to a call. We only got 1 squirrel for the day, or I should say Dodge got 1 Let’s just say my shooting skills with the .22 were just a little off Greg finally got the squirrel with the .410 We didn’t kick up any rabbits today. We both put quite a few miles today walking all different types of ground. The squirrels today were almost non-existant in a place that is normally full of them. We didn’t even hear very many barking at us. It was still a good day to be out and enjoying the outdoors
