    I think the .243 is a great deer gun I have alot of friends that use them for whitetails and also mule deer just my 2 cents.

    Shot placement is the most important thing . Most small calibers will do the job if you can hit the vitals. Marginal hits will cost you a deer or result in a long tracking job. 30-06 makes a mess, but being from Iowa I have no first hand experiance, yet.

    I have had quite a little experience with the .243. This is the only gun I use to kill coyotes. About the time I was going to purchase one of the .22 calibers, Nosler came out with the 55 gr. ballistic tip bullets. This is really a good choice for coyotes. I don’t know exactly what’s available for factory ammo in this bullet size but if you handload or know someone that does this bullet is a dandy.
    I use 55gr. of H380 and have chronographed this at 4069 FPS at the muzzle. Believe me this is a screamer. This one stays flat and bucks the wind pretty well.
    Again, a good choice as the.243 is very versatile.

    I have a pair of 6 mm like the 243 55 grain baslistic tips no recoil and I have shot deer for 30 years with mine havent lost any that I hit. Just dont hit many lol
