This time of year they are concentrated and show up on electronics well. ANY electronics. Because they are concentrated you do have to keep moving until you mark them, all or nothing this time of year, but if you find them you will find biters and you will have it to yourself. If you time it right you could get them shallow, otherwise it will be in winter spots near spawning bays. Wait ’till spawn time and you will be trying to slide in where other people have set up, they will throw long casts not to catch fish but to keep you away, ugly. So get out now, my 2 cents

    Right on Tim!
This week has been an eye-opener. If I still owned a bass boat, I would have gone the 2 mi. to the other end of the lake where club members have been blasting crappie just outside an inflowing stream near the wetland area near one of many spawning areas. With my current 10′ boat and tm, I figured to do my own thing close to the launch and fish in water less than 5′. It paid off big time with over 125 fish caught in two days and 6 species at that!

The south end of the lake is wetlands and I found fish in 2′ of water casting towards swamp vegetation. The next day the weather changed with it getting sunnier and windy. A few fish were still caught in that location – a line about 1/2 mi. long, but most fish were caught in 4’/30 yds. out from those areas and parallel to the weed line. My sonar wasn’t working but the anchor rope length gave me an idea the depth fish were caught in. Fan casting helped find the direction of fish concentrations. Good thing for the anchor for holding position when I found a school – sometimes containing different species.

My first time out on a lake and what a great time. Course, the big-boat guys ran to other areas and left me to slam fish from my small boat. Good thing they didn’t see me catch fish or that cove would have been crowded to say the least.
