The first day we walked in to Skeeter Boat Center we had our minds pointing towards an MX. Not dead set but I’ve been in them before and liked the layout.

The favorite wife was chatting with Dean and she said “I like that boat (the MX) but what I really want is a walk through window, dark carpeting and a top”. Next thing I know we were looking at Skeeter’s new this year Solera 189.

Our goal was to find a decent fishing boat that we could take the favorite granddaughter out with pulling a tube as she gets older. More of a very family friendly type boat that I can still fish out of. The Solera fit Deb’s bill perfectly. Although I was prepared to take some concessions in fishing, it turns out I don’t have to!

If you want to he “WOWed” in your boat buying experience, whether or not your looking for a new or used, Skeeter, Warrior or any other brand, call or stop in and chat with him. He may just be able to help you with your buying decisions.

    Thanks DeanO!

We’re taking ‘er out on the maiden voyage to Maiden Rock tomorrow!

    Heck of a rig Brian.

Did you have snake guards put on?

Bunch slithering around the rivers edge yesterday, FYI.

Let us know how you like the boat. I am looking at the same boat and seems to be pretty much in line with the Reata. Curious to see the top speed with the 150. Also, I was wondering if I should order the Skeeter cover or get one make aftermarket so let us know how that well it works trailering.

Congrats. Great boat and sounds like a great experience. That windshield will be nice for these early spring runs.

Now that he has transformed over to the darkside (fiberglass boat) don’t be surprised to see a big Walleye wrap applied. grin

    Nice boat, congrats!!

I thought I knew what my next boat was going to be until I saw the Solera 189 at a show last winter. Really nice boat! Would appreciate your impressions as you get some time in it.

The center rod locker has 6 tubes that will hold 7″ rods (it’s claimed), a side compartment has 4 tubes that will hold 10′ rods.

Below the jump seats on the starboard side is the starting battery and standard 3 bank, 10 amp charger. It’s still new to me so forgive me for not remembering what’s under the port side jump seat.

I pushed water (just before going on plane) to Lake City for break in. Great day for that with reported 25 mph winds and what I call 2 foot waves, what others that saw my video say were 3′ waves. Right after testing out the trolling motor, as I was adding throttle a good wave just barley washed over the nose. It was a very pleasant ride as long as I didn’t look at the water around the boat and ask WTH am I doing out here!

I know for a fact that I would not be out there in that “walleye chop” had I been in my green boat.

Remember, I’ve been a tin boat guy for a very long time.

On the way back, I opened the SHO (whatever that means) up until it reached 43 mph. I backed off once I realized I was airborne. I’m not an air plane pilot so I like to keep the hull on the water.
I can’t say how it rides to other glass boats. I have nothing to compare it to, but I was shocked at the ride. I liked it.

That motor jumped that piece of fiberglass up on plane much fast then I was use to or expecting. I didn’t time it but from dead stop to on plane might have been 5 seconds or less.

Once to the head of the lake the water and wind settled down some. I found Pink Floyd’s song MONEY on YouTube and turned up the Bluetooth sound system…rocked out to Covill.

I was a little surprised at the 150. It’s louder then I thought it would be. Being a 2 stroke guy, it was quieter then my Merc 90 but still louder then what I expected. Again, nothing to compare it to.

The FW was happy that it came with the bimini top. I’ve heard it does get hot during the day and it’s a standard feature.
My problem with it is that when it’s laying down in the back of the boat, we can’t use the jump seats. If the motor is tilted all the way up (think transom saver) the bimini’s frame will hit the motor preventing it from be lowered or raised.
If the frame is kept in the up right position as in the photo it’s not a bother until it’s time to put the cover on.
Not a big hassle, more of a learning curve.
    Uncover boat
    Take out transom saver
    Lower motor
    raise the frame
and go. The top can always be removed and stored in your garage but I know that’s where it will be when I want to use it.

All the above are first impressions. I’m happy (excitedly happy) with it after the first 3-4 hours in it.

Hopefully we’ll have some good weather soon where I can get the FW out in it for her impressions. They are generally MUCH different then mine. ;)

Wow, 4 10′ rods! Is that correct? That alone makes it worth it if you like to troll. I also like that it comes standard with front and rear rails. Brian, you got yourself a trolling machine!

I mounted a Folbe’s on each of the side rails. There’s a hand rail next to the motor to aid the person using the ladder. I have Dean place the same size rail on the other side and mounted my other two Folbe’s on them.

I haven’t had a rod in the boat yet but this will work well for trolling and more importantly sturgeon and cat fishing.

Awesome report! Can’t wait to see it, I heard the 150 SHO has a little more
“snap” to it- think you will really like that rig. Very well thought out fish-ability wise!

Any time you want Joel, just need to go through my FW.

BTW she nixed the retractable foot rests…without hesitation.
