It’s been discussed prior but can’t find threads, any recommendations on a compact quality spinning rod? Doing some bike camping and ideally would fit into my frame bag, each section less than 16″. Will sacrifice quality for size. Just want to be able to stop and fish those good looking spots along the trail.

Bolt a chunk of PVC to your bike, put a full-size rod in it, and add a flag to the tip. You might have to use a stiffer rod to hold up the flag depending how fast you bike.

I bought the Fenwick travel spinning rod a couple years ago, came with a travel tube. Think it’s 3 pieces. More than happy with the sensitivity for what it is. It will cast jigs, shad raps, etc. Bought it to throw in my carry on bag, which it will diagonally just barely. Without the tube all pieces will fit in there normally and I can save the space of not bringing tube, and just pack clothes around it.

Penn and Toadfish to name a few make travel rods. Few companies make 4 or more-piece, 2 different tip and midsections to mix and match for different actions within the same rod.

I bought 3 KastKing rods off of Amazon and was pleasantly surprised at the quality. I bought 3 to compare the differences then returned 2 of them. They are honestly pretty good rods for well under $100.

I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to buy another for a travel rod.

I have a st croix triumph that works very well. 4 piece…might be a bit longer than 16” per though. I think I got it at Scheels for about a $100.

You didn’t mention if you want a 4-piece or a telescopic. The telescopic rods are all sh!tty but you can be off your bike and fishing in seconds. The 3 or 4 piece rods take a bit to put together and re-tie but then fish like a 1-piece rod.

St Croix 4 piece spinning. They were on clearance at Fleet Farm this past winter so you might still be able to find one at your local Fleet.

I have been happy with the 3 piece Fenwick’s that I have. Spinning rod is a 7′ 3 piece ml/m and casting is a 7′ m/mh. So what that means is that each 3 piece rod actually comes with 4 pieces in the case and 2 separate tip sections for the two separate actions listed. Two small packed rods is almost like 4 rods. They have become trunk of the car rods for me and don’t get a lot of use but are sure nice to have. Perfect for backpack in and travel rods also.

Thanks fellas. Will be staying away from telescoping, have a couple and not a fan.

Rodwork, I have a pvc holder on my hybrid that I hit up the local river with a full rod, these trips will be much longer on the gravel setup and looking to keep it compact.
