M-pug,
When at the house I really dont worry much, but Ammo (yes a he, 85# yellow lab) is good about staying right around the yard and woods close by. We have way more black bears hanging around than wolves. However, when I walk the trails with him I always have a sidearm or shotgun. I also carry a length of rope with a loop on it. I had to get my previous dog’s head out of a 220 conibear a few years ago barehanded. Very glad for adrenaline She put her head in a bucket-set, darn lucky there was nothing hurt badly. Guessing she had a really bad headache for awhile tho.
I’m not paranoid of wolves or traps, just want to be prepared in case. There is a cleared gas pipeline about 2/3 of a mile west on my wheeler trail and the guy that sits on it deer hunting sees 6-7 wolves over the course of a season crossing it. They are around, but do there thing pretty un-noticeable for the most part.
