I was just wondering, it was 3 degrees this morning. The pond in my backyard is frozen over. Three whacks with a spud bar. I didn’t journey too far from shore but I got to wondering when I was done.

Dec 2, 2023 was on fire for a crank bait bite. Was looking forward to dumping the boat in tonight – hard pass on that. Looks like season over

I just hope the ice season last this year. Last year sucked, it was 2 weeks long.

2 weeks is plenty of winter and ice fishing. We need to shed this chilly crap and get back to open water. You can go to a bar and fish for ice in your cocktail glass.

Not sure about the river, but I heard red lake is good to go, but you didn’t hear it from me whistling

Report back if you make it out!

I ended up calling my buddy who owns the bait store in Guttenberg,IA, and he told me that the backwaters were froze over but he wouldn’t advise going out. This was for ice on the bottom of pool 10 and 11. So I ended up staying home and getting my stuff ready for gun season and cleaned out my truck from bow hunting. Plus I ended up getting my deer from the locker and in the freezer, and a walleye to my taxidermy. Day well spent, I’m gonna be out after gun season chasing after fish through the ice.

The Guttenberg bait shop did an ice update on FB and said that we’re at least a dozen people out on Bussey. Bussey is usually the 1st to freeze up.

I called Bobby, went to high school with him, and he told me that it had frozen over Friday night going into Saturday morning. He told me not to come up Sunday. I figured people would be out there but didn’t want to fall through. I don’t have Facebook so what Murray’s posted, I didn’t see.

Went out on Bussey Lake this weekend. 6” of good ice, slop on top. Caught some decent panfish, smaller bass, and some northern on tip ups. Big crappies were biting as well. Gonna be trying again next weekend. Merry Christmas e everyone!
