Just purchased a T 8 kicker motor and need it install another fish finder. Want to get more useage out of my FL 8 and was wondering if I should purchase a high speed transducer and use it for summer fishing? Are any of you guys using this set-up or should I go with something else?

I just got rid of my FL8-SLT because I couldn’t get good readings up by the dam where turbulance is present. It lites up the whole flasher with all its colors. Now if you were just looking for a bottom finder and weren’t looking for all the options of a liquid crystal then this might go over good for you. I think the flasher is the ticket for ice fishing but just didn’t do the trick for open water/boat use. I just purchased a X-51 by Lowrance and after about 2 hours on the water with it today I think I’m really gonna like it. And at $189.00 includes built in temp I think its a good package. Well thats my nickels worth.

I use a vexilar when ice fishing. Last summer I bought a trolling motor for my boat. When I was up front I couldn’t see my electronics. Went to cabelas and bought a kit from vexilar to mount the transducer on the bottom of the trolling motor. It works really good depth wise and if you use them alot you can see the bottom line get thicker when fish are close to the bottom. I ice fish with it every weekend, and there great there. Just my thoughts. Jim

I have a similair problem. Currently the transducer is on the back of the boat, and the display is at the bow where the trolling motor is. It works out great in that I can just glance down occasionally and see what’s down there.

The down side to it is that it makes it nearly impossible to follow contour lines with the trolling motor. By the time the depth finder (back of the boat) is indicating a bottom change, the front is up/down, up/down. Because of that I was considering moving the lcd to the console and putting my flasher right on the electric. The down side of it is that the flasher doesn’t have the nice little ‘history’ that the LCD has, so you have to keep your eyes glued to it.
